I encourage anyone who is looking to rent in Boston to fully read their lease. Boston rent laws favor the apartment management companies and if you have a change of circumstances, you will be subject to the leniency of whom you rent with. With that said, I do not recommend renting with Abbey Residential at Saint Germain. I have leased with Abbey for 2 years. My initial lease started in 2019, they offered two months free if I moved in February stating that they wanted to get me on a April renewal cycle, this never happened. I received a notice in November that I needed to renew my lease or be subject to the company showing my apartment. I quickly signed without thinking that my plans would have changed. Unfortunately my plans changed in January. I had come to the apartment management team in person and let them know my circumstances, that I wanted to get out of my lease that was re-signed in November for a February lease. They made attempts to look in, but they dissuaded me from pursuing a lease breakage as the contract stipulates a 2 month rent up front and paying rent for 2 more months. I scrambled to find work during the pandemic, dipping into savings to continue to pay rent on the over priced unit. Still asking every quarter to get out, still receiving the same response that they do not show leniency and that they have a lot of requests to get out of leases. I'm more than certain that they have let others out of their leases without penalty. I moved out of the apartment in November to a different city. I have continued to make payments since. My lease ends in February. I reached out to management to see if I waived my deposit if they would concede the last month of rent. They said that they would not do so, but they would send my deposit as soon as my lease ends. I've rented from other apartment complex's and they have been quick to keep the deposit with me leaving a lease as soon as 4 months before the lease ends. All in all the apartment only has a location to boast about. The laundry facilities are an outside walk which makes doing laundry in the winter challenging. There is an issue of drug addicts getting high in the alley ways throughout the year. Deliveries if not delivered to the main building are often stolen off persons stoops. My overall rating of the apartment would be higher if the management team was more reasonable, but all in all I would say do not rent from here. There are other places that offer better accommodations with better amenities in the city for a far more reasonable rent as well as management team. I absolutely hate posting reviews of places because I honestly find it comes from people who don't read the fine print. I unfortunately did not read the fine print with this company and wanted to share my experience. If I could give negative stars, I would.
The Saint Germain building is gorgeous. My coworkers literally referred to it as the Princess Palace because it was so much nicer than all their apartments. The units in 67 St. Germain are also much much nicer than the rooms in buildings on the same street managed by other groups - our apartment had the softest, cleanest carpet. With the combo of location and interior, this building really beats out all the rest.
While the street is beautiful and the maintenance men are absolute gems of human beings, I'm giving 2 stars becauae management is severely lacking empathy. They never want to work around your schedule to do repairs I have a dog and a full time commuting job but seem to think any day of the week won't intwefere with my life and/or job. But I am PRIMARILY writing this to express my absolute disappointmwent in management's ability to get the theft of tons of USPS/FedEx/UPS/DHL packages. CONSTANT THEIVERY IN THE VESTIBLES AND OUTSIDE THE DOORS. They. Do. NOT give a flying F. $30,000 per year to rent and this is what we put up with.
The St Germain apartments are beautiful - roomy, big windows, exposed brick, great appliances, etc. St Germain is a quaint little side street in the heart of the city - easily walkable to the Pru, Newbury Street, South End, Charles River & Fenway. The location really can't be beat. Loved living there and would highly recommend!
If I could I would give this property management company 0 stars. Terrible service for the residents that live in their units. They only care about getting your money.
Unfortunately I had some troubles with Abbey. If you have an option, I would highly recommend finding another management company.
This is worst property with very rude people as management, due to one of misunderstanding they called me in the office and scolded me and we were fined with no warning for $500.NegativeResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value
Apperantly charging people $350 for leaving negative reviews is an acceptable practice.
Very well managed property. Could be the next destination for me in Boston
