The office staff was friendly and competent. I saw Dr. Venegas for a full body check as a new patient. She seemed rushed and almost annoyed. She did not visibly wash or sanitize her hands prior to the exam. I had a concern in a sensitive area that I wanted addressed. She walked out and I heard her and the medical staff laugh. I left instead of having it removed. I’m disappointed and embarrassed. I’m also concerned that proper hand washing may not be occurring.
I went in for a skin check and the doctor looked at my one concern and that was it. 5 min is all that I was in for and the doctor seemed annoyed. I have had skin cancer before so this was important to me. I guess I will have to look for another doctor.
I started going to Advanced Dermatology a few years ago when we moved in the area. Jodie Holmes, NP has assisted me the entire time. She is very thorough with her exam, and is very personable. Appointment times are close. I think I waited maybe 20 minutes tops. But here's the kicker. On my recent visit, I had some areas of my skin frozen. The next day, the one on my arm started looking bad. I called first thing in the morning and left a message, but never got a return call. So, I drove myself back to the office and told them the situation. In no time, they took me to the back office, assured me it was fine, did a small procedure and had me on my way. Total time was maybe 10 minutes. This is the kind of service I look for in a Doctor's office. I highly recommend them for all your skin care needs. Ask for Jodie Holmes!!
I have been a patient for 3 years. My prescription seemingly ran out so I called to verify/ check on a refill or if I needed an appointment. 2 messages to the nurses line and a week later no call back. Called and got someone live, explained my request and she sent me to the same voicemail. Enough. I realize that people are short staffed, etc but my time has to be worth something. I will look for another provider.
I went in for a routine full body exam. I have never had one but have sun damage and a few moles here and there. I have talked to several friends this week that have warned me how EXTENSIVE the exam would be meaning every nook and cranny. I also had several people tell me about their previous experiences with full body exams at their dermatologist how the doctor will be calling out all kinds of numbers, terms, locations, etc while being examined I’m assuming to a nurse who would be documenting all areas to monitor in the future for change. After my 1 hour wait, I was told to remove all but my underwear, which was confusing since I was told every inch should be examined. Dr. Vanegas examined my entire body in 40 seconds, did not appear to document any areas on my body for future referencing, didn’t ask a single question about my exposure to the sun or if I even wear sunscreen. Never checked my scalp. The only area I got feedback on was a red dot on my cheek. She kept pointing to areas on my face asking if they were pimples, like I have every blemish memorized. She said if it doesn’t go away in a month come back. Then she gave me an appointment card for 1 year. I have never wasted $60 so quickly. Would recommend seeing a real dermatologist.
Went in for a referral. I sat for over an hour to see a doctor that had no idea about the referral. The doctor then wanted me to reschedule for later in the week at the Arlington location. I told her I didn't have anymore free time to do that. She said "I'm sorry to hear that." and walked out. I paid a $45 co-pay. They wanted me to reschedule and pay another $45 co-pay. I called and left a message for the office manager. He has not called me back. I will be reporting them for insurance fraud. Update: I spoke to the office manager on the phone. We had a back and forth conversation about what happened. We both expressed our points of view. He was supposed to talk to the doctor and get back with me by the end of the week. I've heard nothing. Update #2: After leaving the above review and update...I still haven't gotten a call nor have I received my $45 copay back.
Right now I'm kind of upset because I had a biopsy sent out about 2 weeks ago and have not heard anything from them it doesn't take 2 weeks to get a biopsy back it's just pure negligence not to get back with me
Care was fine however Dr Patel is not a good communicator nor does she make you feel as if she is listening or cares! I had been warned of her "bed side manner" before seeing her so it wasn't a shock. Very difficult to get a call in to their office - have waited 15-20 minutes just to speak to a human. Get more help!
I think Dr. Patel is an okay doctor for some - she just wasn't ideal for me. I have PCOS, and that comes with several challenges. She made a point to tell me my clothes were too tight, I have to lose weight, and it's not difficult because she's done it. Moreover, if I lose the weight, my skin issues would go away. In the 5 minutes or so that she was in the room, her lack of bedside manners sent me into an anxiety attack shortly thereafter. I get it though, doctors are in a rush. Some dont have the time to ask the posing questions. This though was just not acceptable, and I am very disappointed because no one should leave an appointment feeling the way that I did. If she would have asked, she would know that I am physically active 4x a week, and I don't have it in the budget to buy new clothes every time my hormones are imbalanced. Most importantly, she would know that I'm working diligently, and have been for years, to drop weight. What's more, she could have answered my list of questions - that I ended up having to discuss with my primary physician. For these reasons alone, I'm searching for a new dermatologist who is a bit more sensitive and supportive. One who takes the time to truly understand my issues.
My appointment was very pleasant. I was greeted at the front door, my concerns and issues were heard, and addressed. I've had amazing progress from the medication products that were recommended for me. I'll definitely being staying with Advance Dermatology to continue my dermatology needs.
