They don’t answer their phone, however, I did receive a kind email response to my question from Dacia Smith and Pamela LoBrono within 24 hours. FYI: they no longer issue marriage licenses or perform marriage ceremonies at the Algiers Courthouse.
The staff and judges are all great! They give a more personable experience. And the ferry ride is a perfect photo op. However, you can no longer elope there - so quite a few of our clients have taken the ferry ride over to our office to elope or have their license signed, after picking up their license there.
Why on earth can't they do marriage licenses? They have a giant sign on the front of the ugly building that says "MARRAIGE LICENSES." It was dumb looking and bad smelling inside.
If you're getting married in the New Orleans area, take the ferry and go to Algiers instead. Fraction of the wait, and a relaxing ferry ride!
This place is historic and beautiful. It's perfect for eloping or a nicer wedding if you want! I will say I was disappointed when I was told last minute that our judge would not be there, but we got a wonderful man to marry us! Pastor Brown is the best! Our wedding day turned out to be perfect! Thank you!
I don't know why this courthouse exists. They don't seem to do anything. They have a sign outside saying marriage licenses and ceremonies, but they don't perform these. Staff is very unhelpful. they seem very put out when asked information. You are better off just going downtown.
We got our marriage license here 20 years ago.

Have called several times to check and see if my marriage licence has been filed and they have yet to return my call.
