About a year ago, I had the worst experience in over 20 years of donating. An over 70 min wait time. I left, didn't even donate. I've been back a few times since, and today I had a great experience here. a quick, lickety split. In and out under an hour. b a great phlebotomist. Quick, nice, but ... Biden says the pandemic is over, so why are way too many people still wearing facemasks? In my opinion. Facemasks are now optional here, and I didn't have one on, and neither did the person drawing my blood. *Thank you.* The sooner we get back to normal, all of us, the better!
The staff here is very friendly. This is one of the locations that is set up for specialized donations, as in platelets, plasma, and double red cell donations. I recommend making an appointment, as this is a location that has a number of regular donors. So, walk-in donations are not always available or able to be accommodated promptly. Specialized donations tend to take longer procedure time, so those donations get prioritized at the intake level - especially if staffing is short that day. I am a fairly regular platelet donor, and even when I have had to wait a half hour or longer it has been rare 2 times in three years.
Really frustrating. I have been here 3 times, each time waiting over an hour before attempting to take blood. 2 times, one of which was today, they could not get the vein. I tell them upon arrival it is tricky to find a vein, and I ask for a supervisor. Today, I left with a very large, painful lump from where they could NOT get blood. I will go to Stanford Blood Center from now on. Staff very friendly.
What ever you do schedule your appointments in the AM NOT THE PM . If you can. CANCELED TWICE because it was to late. After 5:00 pm Even with pre- screening paper work . Was still there close to two hour they close at 7:00pm. But it is for a good cause bottom line....right
Consistently overbooked / understaffed. Multiple times I’ve had to leave because they’re running 45 min late and couldn’t wait any longer. Will only donate at location based drives going forward, where they actually respect times and book more realistically.
Nice people, great cause, efficient at what they do. In thanks for good health, give to the Red Cross what others need desperately. Your blood saves lives!
This is a pretty nice building. HOWEVER, they absolutely do not respect your time. Second time in a row, I have to wait for over an hour and a half in the lobby. What’s the point of scheduling for a specific time if this keeps happening? If there are too many people donating, why do I keep getting calls that there’s a shortage of donors? Considering that it’s a $30 Uber ride from my house to this location - I think today was my very last time here.
No respect for time. What’s the point of making appointment? Waited more than 1 hour pretty much every time. It’s better to schedule with Vitalant, they are more on time.
I donated two days ago and I was asked if it would be ok with a trainee phlebotomist doing the withdraw. They reassured me that she would be supervised at all times so I said yes. Her name is Michelle and she did an excellent job! She was very careful and kept calm. She made me feel comfortable at all times. I had no pain and no bruising at all. Great job Michelle from SF!!
Red Cross is the best & I don't understand why their BLS certs aren't widely accepted by healthcare institutions. But that's the system for ya. Anywho, everyone I've encountered at the Red Cross has been 100% helpful & genuine & they really embody the humanitarian values that the organization is known for.
