The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Educational Programs - We educate the public how to prevent, prepare for and respond to any type of emergency. Training programs range from treating minor cuts and burns to cardiac arrest; surviving a thunderstorm, hurricane or tornado; handling stress at work or surviving a devastating loss. These and many other courses are aimed at helping raise a awareness in our community.
Disaster Response - Not only do we train our neighbors to be prepared for a disaster, but when one does occur, we respond immediately. Whether it is a fire, flood, hurricane or tornado, we are prepared to provide temporary housing to one person or to open a shelter for 100 people. We are ready with food, water and shelter when disaster strikes for any member of our community regardless of sex, race, religion, orientation or political affiliation.
Day-to-Day Assistance - The Salem County Chapter also assists residents with their day-to-day struggles, such as providing rides, free of charge, to those who need transportation to doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics or other medical treatment facilities. A medical loan closet is also available to all county residents if they are ever in need of equipment.
These are just a few of the many services that we provide to our community. The Salem County Chapter of the American Red Cross is run entirely on donations and 98% of the work is done by volunteers! We need your help to continue helping those in need throughout our county.
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
