Story

FIKA is the American Swedish Institute's award-winning New Nordic inspired cafe. Named "Best Lunch in Minnesota" by the Star Tribune. Our Outdoor Courtyard is one of the hidden gems of the Twin Cities' dining scene.

We offer fresh baked goods and coffee starting at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays. Lunch service from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tuesday–Sunday.

After Work Wednesday, a Nordic-inspired happy hour and dinner service from 3 until 9 p.m.

From espresso and pastries to farm-fresh salads and open-face sandwiches, FIKA features traditional Swedish delicacies alongside modern interpretations of the New Nordic Cuisine.

With the Turnblad Mansion in full view, guests dining at FIKA can choose from an ever changing seasonal menu dedicated to our regional ingredients and Nordic traditions.

In Sweden, "fika" is a daily break, traditionally involving coffee and treats. Fika is about much more than caffeine and carbohydrates. It's a Swedish social institution, where friends sit down and chat about life and current events.

The best place to feel Swedish culture and history in United States. American Swedish Society was built by the pioneering work of Swedish immigrant newspaperman Swan J Turnblad in 1929. This is a fascinating museum, stunning mansion and important cultural center, which is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The American Swedish Institute is such a beautiful museum and mansion! It was really neat to see the different rooms in the mansion. There is a really nice gift shop and cafe in the main area. The price is really reasonable for a unique museum experience.
I love visiting the American Swedish Institue. The staff is great and helpful. Love visiting all the rooms and seeing whatever is currently on exhibit.
Very interesting history to enjoy, plus the architecture!
The historical architecture was well worth the visit. There was a very solemn exhibition of the Jewish children sent away to protect them from the German horrors. Many items were owned by children who eventually immigrated to Minnesota.
Had a great time here! The mansion is beautiful and was worth the visit alone. Lots of areas to walk - went on Sunday at 4pm, pretty much had the place to ourselves to roam around. Friendly staff, especially the nice man who showed us around and told us a bit about the history of the place. Had a great time!
