American Theatre of Actors (ATA) is one of the longest running Off-Off-Broadway theatre companies in New York City. The Company’s purpose has been to promote the development of new playwrights, directors and actors and provide them a creative atmosphere in which to work without the pressures of commercial theatre.
After 35 years, American Theatre of Actors has made an indelible mark on the NY stage: having produced over 900 new plays and given opportunities to over 10,000 actors. The Company is known warmly in the field as a ‘rite of passage’ for up and coming actors, directors and playwrights.
ATA’s Special Programs:
• Director's Festival: 6-8 new directors are given a chance to direct a dramatic or comedic play of a naturalistic format.
• Playwright's Festival: 6-8 new playwrights are given a chance at having their play produced at ATA. We only accept dramas or comedies of a naturalistic format.
• The Classics: Each season we produce 3-5 Shakespeare and/or Greek classics to compliment the training of our Actors and Directors.
