I'm so grateful to have found this salon which specializes in helping women, going through chemo, look their best. Our stylist, Suzie, was warm, patient, and knowledgeable while helping choose and try on a number of beautiful wigs. She explained the difference between the different materials, and how to put it on, how to care for it. The whole nine yards. She even threw in a complimentary hair cut before we left the salon. Before booking an appointment, I spoke with Andrew, himself, over the phone and he was very thorough in going over their procedure, so I knew ahead of time what to expect; there were no unpleasant surprises when dealing with the salon.
I met Andrew DiSimone and his stylist Shanta at the American Cancer Society where they volunteer their time and talents to cut and manicure wigs for cancer patients. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and when I found out that I would be having the chemo that causes hair loss, of course, I flipped the f out. So I signed up for the program at the ACS to get a wig made for me. When I met Andrew, he flew in with the energy of a lightening bolt. Fresh and fun and ready for anything. I loved him immediately. He handed me a wig that was an ash brown in color. I asked politely if I could possibly have an auburn wig as that was what I was used to with my real hair. He leaned toward me and with a wry smile said take this one, it's real hair not synthetic and you will bring it to my salon and I will have it cut and colored to my liking. He said that Shanta could be my stylist. I was so grateful for his generosity and of course said yes immediately. I brought my wig in and Shanta was so absolutely lovely. I showed her pictures of my usual hair and she said of course she could make that color happen. She asked if I could come in the next day for the hair cut. I came in with my best friend Holly the next day and everyone in the salon is so wonderful. We were taken care of beautifully. Nan, the salon manager is such a delightful person. Very accommodating. Shanta took her time to make every detail of the wig perfect. Never any rush. True artistry. When we were done I saw myself in the mirror again. It moved me to tears because it was so empowering to feel myself again. As any woman knows our hair is part of our trademark. I cannot thank Shanta and Andrew enough. Thank You Thank You Thank You. I absolutely love my new hair.
Do not believe that is you not fully happy with the cut, reduction of hair, sizing when the wig is much too large for your head. You will make an appointment, for example, to have more hair removed. I know it is a delicate and time consuming process but I had appointments twice, waiting at least 45 minutes each time, told them I would return but they stated it would not take long. Untrue. I will have to donate the wig as it does not fit right, and the volume is for someone other than 5”1” 94 lbs and that is one of the first things I stated when I tried it on. NO PROBLEM, whey would fix the cap. Not true again. Will stop here but would be glad to offer more if someone was interested. Must add that as I sat there looking at a wonderfully style, right size and right length wig on a shelf, I mentioned how nice THAT one looked. The reply was “oh, that’s Donna’s not sure of name. Hmm, so she rates and yet my purchase was $4K and I was treated like, well sub-human, despite living a couple blocks away.
I am undergoing chemotherapy and losing my hair rapidly. I called Andrew DiSimone Wigs because of the outstanding online reviews and spoke with Andrew personally. He was attentive and informative, and he suggested that I decide when I wanted to come in, and he would accommodate me. I made an appointment the next day and was fortunate to have Suzie as my stylist. She buzzed off what remained of my hair with compassion and sensitivity, and she selected the perfect wig for me. She did not pressure me into higher priced wigs and styled the wig to perfection. I couldn't be more pleased, not only with the selection and price but with the caring atmosphere and extraordinary sensitivity and warmth of the stylist. Losing one's hair due to cancer treatments is certainly traumatic, but Andrew DiSimone's salon goes a long way to mitigate the emotional distress. The excellent reviews are well-deserved!
I am going through the chemo treatment and wanted to be prepared for the hair loss that I might experience soon. I found information about Andrew DiSimone on Google and so glad I did. He is an amazing person! From the first phone call to make an appointment through the whole experience of picking the perfect wig, it was a delight. Andrew helped me to pick up the wig that if looked exactly like my own hair: color, cut, wave. He showed me how to wear it and take care of. Andrew made this experience fun. Thank you, Andrew! You made this step so easy and pleasant! Julia
I have been here twice and both times I was helped by Alex. The 1st time, I went to choose a wig right before beginning chemotherapy. I went back 2 months later to finally shave off my hair. Alex was wonderful both times and made the experience a lot less stressful. We joked around a lot and I didn't even cry about losing my hair. LOL Thank you so much!
My mother is a cancer patient, and was hesitant about using a wig as a way to deal with the hair loss. But I told her that wig shopping or going some place for a wig consultation wouldn't hurt, and that she did not have to commit to anything if she did not want to. We found Andrew DiSimone online and went in to see him right away. Andrew was kind, supportive, and he was not at all pushy about us committing to a wig right then and there. He gave us personalized attention while also giving us space to discuss whether or not a wig was something that my mom wanted. We decided on one of the wigs he showed us, after he gave us his honest reviews of real hair wig vs. synthetic wigs. Because my mom has had short hair for years, she wanted a short wig. Andrew suggested we go with a synthetic wig since real hair wigs are best long he did not push the more expensive real hair wigs. During the whole consultation I felt that Andrew was honestly trying to help. Talking to him was more like talking a friend with experience with cancer patients rather than a salesman. Andrew cut and styled the wig to my mother's liking without charging extra, and offered to retouch whenever she liked if she felt she wanted to alter it a little more. He has also offered to cut and style her real hair when it grows back after chemo free of charge. I highly recommend Wigs for Cancer Patients with Andrew DiSimone for anyone going through the very scary, painful, and stressful cancer journey.
I have been dealing with on and off hair growth for the last 11 years of my life. I finally got enough courage to have a wig made to help me through my shedding periods. I went to a wig maker in Brooklyn who fabricated a human hair wig. The wig was okay but the cut was terrible. I did some research online and came across Andrew. Within the first 5 minutes he made me feel very comfortable and within 15 minutes of cutting my wig he made me smile. Andrew made the wig look perfect as well as me. I have since worn it twice to go out with friends with rave reviews. My only regret is I did not find Andrew sooner to make the wig. His talents are special as well as his advice. Honest and to the point. Good job Andrew and thank you. Ali
I went to see Andrew a year and a half ago to get a wig after losing all my hair. I was amazed not only by how beautiful and authentic the wigs looked, but also how kind and sincere Andrew was. He understood my situation, made me feel at ease, and fitted me with a wig that allowed me to go out in public again and feel like myself. I just went to see Andrew again today, to have the wig shortened for a new look and he was his same caring self. He gave me lots of time to consult with him and he cut my wig into its new style with care. No matter how much time goes by, Andrew continues to take great care of me. Thank you, Andrew.
I had a great experience here with my daughter, who has Alopecia Areata. We visited several different wig shops and wig makers in the New York area and found Andrew DiSimone wigs to meet all of our needs. Alex was extremely professional but also warm and friendly and she helped us through the process from start to finish. We've had a lot of trouble in the past getting the hair color right and to my surprise, she got it perfect! She also took a lot of time when the wig came in to style it and cut "whispies" so that my daughter could wear the wig in a ponytail as well. My daughter has been wearing the piece for about 2 weeks now and I already ordered a second one. They also offer a discount on the wigs to children, which is obviously beyond awesome! I think it was just one more thing that made me feel like they actually care about the people they're helping. AND, it allowed us to get two wigs so we can have a back up for sports, etc. Overall, a really good experience and I would highly recommend to anyone needing a wig!
