About Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine:
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years in China to treat both people and animals. Throughout the ages, each generation of practitioners has added personal knowledge based on trial and error in order to obtain in successful results.
Acupuncture theory is based on sets of points along sets of channels or “meridians” which can be viewed as energy pathways carrying the vital life-force throughout the body.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine or Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine this energy force is referred to a as “Chi” or Qi”. A number of influences on “Qi” or “Blood” such as blockages in the pathways or pathogenic substances that can invade into the body lead to imbalances in health.

Imbalances are often categorized in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine as excess or deficient, yin or yang, hot or cold, damp or dry and internal or external. Some practitioners prefer to organize their diagnosis based on what is known as the “Five Element Theory”, another aspect of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Correct diagnosis is made based on presentation of the animal, clinical signs of the imbalance, diagnostics such as tongue and pulse and the experience of the practitioner.
Using acupuncture needles and Traditional Chinese medical herbs or formulas, the practitioner of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine focuses on correcting the imbalances that manifest as health issues or pain in his or her patient. Clinical strategies are based upon diagnosis of patterns and of signs and symptoms that reflect an imbalance.
