Rick was highly recommended in my city neighborhood Facebook group, so I called him when my refrigerator was having intermittent problems. He returned my call promptly, showed up on time, quickly diagnosed the problem, ordered two parts, came back two days later when he said he would, only used one of the two potential parts and provided an immediate refund. He also noticed my water filter needing replacing, suggested I order one online less expensive to me, and while here he replaced and primed it as a complimentary service. He was pleasant and hard-working while he was here both times. It doesn’t get any better than this! Nola
I have used Rick in the past and had no issues. Today had him come check a Refrigerator which didn't seem like an exceptionally difficult task. I am in the service industry and own a business I am often in meetings. Was informed that I would not be available and that I would have someone meeting him to let him in. Rick reached out and said I needed to give him a call about what was wrong. I told him that I would be unavailable and that text would be the best way to communicate with me. Rick told me "NO". That he would not text me and let me know what was wrong with the refrigerator understanding that I had just simply requested that method of communication based on the workload of my day. This is extremely disappointing considering that I also am in the service industry and I understand that each and every person has a job they are trying to do throughout their work day. The customers at our company are more than welcome to request a certain method of communication if it's convenient for them. We are sensitive to these things because we understand people have of other things going. Unfortunately it did not stop there when I asked Rick to please finish up let me know what I owed him and please leave. Being rude was simply u called for and certainly as a client will not tollerate. The person on-site also said that he seemed to be very stand offish. This is all rather disappointing and better care shpuld be taken and or Remedial training to ensure that multiple repeat customers are not treated disrespectfully. Will not be using them again.
Be Careful! This company is a FRAUD. Called Rick for my Samsung Clothes Dryer. He suspected it could be Heating element problem over phone and asked for $200. Looks at it and said it may be the problem with Mother board relay and not the heating element. Asked for $290. Comes back with mother board and it did not work and said it could be the problem with Motor Switch and asked for $350. He takes $140 check to get the part and never came back. He was frustrated that he could not diagnose and used foul language which I do not want around my family. Did not pick up my calls until I called from a different phone number. Please be careful. He was useless in my case and cheated. Absolutely no diagnostic skills. Felt like he was doing a trail and error business. Customers should be made aware of people and businesses like this. Very Unhappy and looking at options to penalize.
I contacted Rick awhile back because I had frost buildup in my KitchenAid freezer. I've come to find out there was absolutely no need for him to come out for the 5 minutes he did to diagnose the problem. He charged me $95 to tell me I needed a new gasket. A neighbor installed the gasket but the problem persisted. I called Rick back he then said I needed 2 expensive rails as the freezer was not properly closing and now that was the issue. The draws were closing properly. By the time he and Fox parts figured out the exact parts and cost $275 there was water buildup. Rick then said it was a clogged freezer drain line that was the other problem. The cost to install the 2 rails was another $275 . When he finally came out to install I commented on the labor cost as 1 I had already disassembled most of it to defrost and it took 15 minutes to take out and screw in new parts. He said I was not paying for his time but his years of knowledge. He pulled out the fridge and the line was in fact not frozen and had it been and thawed there would have been water on the floor, there was not. Incorrect diagnosis there. He then said if I had any frost buildup to call him immediately and not wait. Sure enough there was frost the very next day. I texted and sent him a photo and was told to give it a week??? Why call immediately then give it another week? Probably because he couldn't fit me in. During that time,I continued to troubleshoot shoot. I finally got a tech on the phone. He said the parts installed had NOTHING to do with the frost. I had reservations from the beginning based on my own research and when I questioned Rick a second time he nastily said what part of this don't you understand? The tech told me to look carefully around the gasket that many times there are little gaps,no fault of installer they just don't always fit tightly, where I saw a gap hit it with clear silicone a $6 purchase. I did, frost no more. He added that a large build up of frost and water would be seen after leaving as is for a length of time which it was weeks before this was all resolved. When it came to pay Rick I asked about the deduction for not needing to drain the line,no deduction, same price Rick was scheduled to come back today to address the frost but I fixed it but the draw he put back in was not opening as it did before this problem. All of a sudden,I need another part for the same reason he said before. He said he would not put anymore $ into this yet before ordering the last set of parts he said the refrigerator was worth investigating in. I told him I was not happy, his reply was " I would not be either" WTH. I spoke with 2 techs at KA,no I did not write down their names. Rick said they did not know what they were talking about, they just answer the phones,no,I said they were technicians. He was visibly upset they cast doubt on his ability to properly diagnose the real issue which was a $6 fix. He suggested I see if they would comp the part and he would install the part knowing damn well they are not going to comp a part on an out of warranty appliance why would they?. He said the draw was of no fault of his though it worked fine before this repair and he would be upset too but he did nothing wrong and his diagnosis was correct and asked for the names of the techs so he could call them because they questioned his knowledge to a customer. He then accused me of lying when I said you came out and after you left I had frost. He says he did not see any. I sent him a text with a photo and I fixed it myself since then. He was accusatory of there being any frost. The worst in all of this was not even the fact the diagnosis was not correct, I paid well over $500 for a simple fix,the worst was when I said I would just write a review. He made a subtle threat. He said " be careful Lisa" I said I said are you threating me? I have the right to write a review, he reiterated," Just be careful" I see quite a few negative reviews on here as well as the BBB He was nothing short of a bully.. Live and learn, there's many appliance companies, read reviews!
Rick is the best in Appliance Repair! I have used Rick for many appliance repairs over the years. Most of my appliances now are fairly new, but recently had to call him for a dishwasher problem. Rick was great at problem solving the dishwasher . I highly recommend him for any of your appliance issues. He is honest, courteous and always on time when he says he is going to be there.
Rick Smith and his company are an absolute scam. Please read this and do not fall victim to his deceit as we did. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as Rick has refused to return our phone calls. Rick came into my home and diagnosed a problem with my fridge based on my verbal report, no technical diagnostic skills. He then sat down at my kitchen table and while on speaker phone put in an order for a part from Fox Appliance Parts. Rick informed me his policy was to require payment for the parts up front. Rick return in 1 week with what I assumed was a new part from Fox. This part that Rick put into my fridge made issues 100% worse. I called Rick back and begged him to put my old part back in my fridge while we waited for him to try to get a replacement for his new part "under warranty" from Fox Appliance Parts. Well after putting the old part back in my fridge, that was the last time I saw Rick. When I started to suspect Rick was not telling me the truth about what was taking so long with getting a replacement, I called Fox Appliance Parts myself and provided them with an order number that Rick had left with me on his personal invoice. Fox Appliance parts informed me that Rick had never completed the order and had never gotten a part from Fox Appliance. When I confronted Rick with this information, he told me that "sometimes I trade parts with people on the internet" and that he was unsure of where he actually got the part he put in my fridge. I did not pay Rick to put a used part from the internet into my Fridge. I paid for a new part from Fox Appliance and for him to install it. Rick has my money, the "new" part I paid for, and no integrity.
Great experience with Rick fixing my oven. Came out at the exact time I needed . Took 15 minutes to address problem and get part ordered for next day. He arrived next day at the time I requested and fixed the problem within 20 minutes. He even discounted his own quote because it took less time than anticipated. Great decision to use him!!!
Although Rick was very friendly, he was extremely pricey and not forthcoming with describing the actual scope of work. Although he properly diagnosed the problem with our refrigerator, he quoted us $300 to fix it with $100 being the cost of replacement part. I later found that the replacement part was only $50 on Amazon. That left $200 for labor. He came and installed the valve and was done in 10 minutes. Although it was on me to research how long it actually took to fix myself, he had already required $150 deposit so I couldn’t get my money back. In the end, he could have just told us “I can do the job but it’s going to cost you $300 and honestly you can buy the part on Amazon for $50 and install it yourself in 10 minutes, it’s not difficult.” I feel like we were ripped off in the end and will not be recommending Rick to anyone.
Appliance Doctor Northside owned and operated by Rick Smith is an outstanding local business dedicated to keeping appliances working and saving you money. I have known Rick Smith for over 15 years, and been a customer of his for the same time. He's a top notch gentleman with an exhaustive knowledge of appliances. His focus is always on customer service. I can't recommend him enough.
Rick came in and helped me find the issue with my fridge and dishwasher. Both things I expected to be replacing a part, but he showed me the real issues, resolved them, and saved me money. It's not often you find a repair guy that will avoid replacing a part unless its truly needed.
