Went to the Potager specifically. Was disappointed that the organic restaurant of a few years ago was no longer in operation, but was heartened to find the proprietor, Cynthia, had re-established a related business (gourmet foods) on a more limited basis catacorner north of the old location. We had simple green salads with what I believe was a raspberry vinigarette to die for--surely homemade--and mushroom quiches that were amazing. Who could imagine something as plain as quiche could be a culinary artform?
The new location is in the defunct Coffee Haus, which was a favorite haunt of many Arlingtonians of academia and artsy intellectual sorts for years, and it still retains the vibes, so this is a subtle added feature.
The only real shortcoming here is the limited selections Cynthia has imposed, I think, for her own comfort. I'd inquired as to why she'd closed the old place and she sighed that it had been a lot of work. But the woman's relaxed attitude is contagious and in no way diminishes the quality of everything she offers. You should try it when you feel like a quiet, exquisite experience.
