Went in today when i had a free moment, looking to see if this shop had a copy of a rare-ish paperback from the 1980s, a mass-market fantasy thing. Owner met me at the door looking wild-eyed like I had barged in wielding a flamethrower or something. I politely started to ask about the book, and he cut me off mid sentence to say "I'm just going to tell you right now, no. I don't have that". Shaking his head briskly and uncomfortably the whole time. "Oh"...I asked him a little thrown off - "Have people asked you about that one before, or..?" "No I just dont care about it." the guy says, unable to hide his bizarre contempt for my completely mundane inquiry. All in all this was one of the most off-putting"retail" and maybe even general interpersonal interactions of my life. "OK - Thanks very much!" I ysaid, and turned and walked out with my head still half spinning. One star for everything service related, but 5+ stars for the likelihood that there are some really unique and rare books in there. Beware though, like Tolkien's gold under the mountain, Smaug is definitely awake and will make finding them a less than pleasant ordeal.
Had breakfast across the street and thought we'd check it out since we were in the neighborhood. 2 doors to the place, neither clearly marked, so we choose the closet one, thinking it would be locked if it wasn't the main/preferred entrance. Opened door and was immediately struck with a disgusting odor of mold and stale body odor, The floor was littered with random papers and filth. Had only taken one step inside when on older gentleman can around the corner and stood in the entrance. He clearly had not bathed in awhile, his eyes were buggy and hair a mess. I said, "Is this the main entrance?" I wasn't sure if I had possibly walked into an untidy stock room.He replied, "I don't know... Is it?" Not knowing how to answer and quite frankly, feeling about skeeved out, I said, "I'm not sure, they're not clearly marked.... Are you open right now?" He said "Do you know how to read?". WTH!?!?. I just said "ok, have a good day" and closed the door. This man clearly had some mental health issues and more than likely a hoarding problem. Danger. Stay far away.
I don't know what's going on with this place, but it was just like the last reviewer...except the owner didn't even allow us to go further than a couple feet from the front door. He stood in our way, not speaking, not answering questions, then spoke up only to forbid us from going the other way either. We said "oh, we just wanted to look at the books" and he responds with "well there's books right here," gesturing to the immediate front door area....also littered with trash and half eaten food. He's probably living in the store and in a lot of trouble. I think he could use some help.
one of the oddest places I've ever been. owner stood there staring at us as if we were going to steal one of the moldy, cat pee books. very scary and horrible. wow, do not go!
The guy that is there is cray. And weird. And rude. Spend your dollar somewhere else.
Moldy
