The church was beautiful, as was the liturgical music. There was ample parking in the church's parking lot just across the street. I went to Mass on a Sunday at 12:30, as it was convenient for my schedule. The Mass was very quick - it was over in about 35 minutes, as they used shortened versions of the bible readings including the Psalm. While I prefer hearing the entire readings, this is a good Mass to come to if you're short on time.
Mass is typically about 40 minutes long. The priests deliver a clear & sometimes humorous message in their sermon that the congregation can easily relate to. We drive the extra distance because we feel we get something out of each service. We haven't figured out were to sit yet because the sound is poor. Arrive early and sit close to a speaker.
Beautiful inside and out! We attended a wedding there and it was so lovely and traditional yet not old fashioned or out of date.
Beautiful church. I used to come here more often. Since my grandmothers passing last year I haven't been here. My family was parishioners here before but we went back to our old church. When my grandmother was alive she would take us to many of the events they had here such as the I believe we would call it a "hurricane". Where they play the piano really loud in the dark around Easter time I believe. It was such an amazing and unique experience. I definitely want to come and experience that again sometime in the future.
I absolutely love Church of the Assumption. From the exterior and interior design, to the lovely parishioners and of course the staff and the priests. My son really loves church. We tend to go to daily mass 2-3 days a week along with Sunday Mass. Sometimes he is hyper and has a hard time sitting still other times he is fine. He always wants to be at church which is amazing for a 6 nearly 7 year old. He has a tendency to try and go into Priest's part of the confessional whenever we are there. The first time I brought him here after returning to the church he said "oh wow daddy it's so pretty in here" and he calls it the castle church due to its exterior design. Every time I am at church or even just on church grounds I can feel the awesome and powerful presence of the Holy Spirit. This is my home and I love Assumption Parish.
I attended the 9:30 service this morning 1/23 and was treated to a wonderful performance by the choir. The piece performed over communion was superb, with a truly talented singer doing a solo that was easily the equivalent of anything I've heard at Orchestra Hall. Brava!
Some Catholic Church's are just awesome to see inside and visit? Paintings, statues, stain glass. I wish I could live in a Older Catholic Church.
My mom’s visitation, funeral mass, and luncheon were here and the church is absolutely beautiful and the people who worked with me were extremely sensitive and helpful. I was completely lost as far as planning a funeral and they helped me with everything and made it much easier for me. I always assumed parking would be difficult considering the location on 7th Street, but there is a huge parking lot in back, so it’s very easy to visit the church.
***THEY REFUSE COMMUNION ON THE TONGUE*** This is a violation of church teaching, church norms and not within the authority of their priests. They need to be reprimanded and corrected. "But it's COVID!" There is NO evidence that suggests communion in dirty or even recently sanitized hands is more hygienic than receiving our Lord on the tongue as has been the church norm regardless of plague status. Really pretty church.
Beautiful church, I enjoyed very much going to service on Sundays. It was restored a few years ago, they did a wonderful job. Even if you are not Catholic is a beautiful church to visit. MJ.
