Today, I had the worst experience as a consumer. All-Star Martial Arts president Sherri treated me with so much disrespect, hate, and belittlement. My son has participated in martial arts at this facility for the past ten months. Unfortunately, the facility lacks instructor continuity due to high instructor turnover. Martial arts is expensive, Like many individuals, my family and I live on a budget. Sherri became disgruntled due to me asking which weapon or gear was most pertinent at this time. Sheri responded aggressively and stated that the children needed both and it was up to me if I wanted my child to "fall behind or not". As I attempted to explain why I asked about gear, Sherri continuously interrupted me and spoke to me as if I was inferior. I then privately informed her of how rude she was being. She spoke to me loudly and aggressively and said she did not have to stand and listen to that. She stated the facility was no longer a "good fit" for me. While storming away, she said she would tell Mr. Reynolds. I then sat back down with the rest of the parents. Moments later, Sherri approached me, saying, "Hey, aren't you month to month anyway." I responded, "Yes, I am." She said, "Well, I can go ahead and cancel your membership right now." I said, "I will just wait to speak with Mr. Reynolds." She responded, "He's my brother; he already knows how you will be, so tell him all you want." I reminded her that the location and time were inappropriate for this conversation since we were around many parents, and the children were right across from us. She stated I was trying to make a scene. I then became silent. After class, I attempted to talk to Mr. Reynolds about the situation, and he stated he did not know what I wanted him to say or do about it because he was only there to teach the students. He asked me whether I wanted to cancel my son's membership or not. He said I probably misinterpreted Sherri saying the school was not a "good fit for me." He said she was speaking about my son only coming to class twice per week and perhaps changing his membership to unlimited. I asked him and Bliss if there was anyone I could talk to regarding my most recent experience, and they both stated they did not know who to contact. Also, for those of you who do not know, All-Star is a family-owned business. There is no wonder Sherri thought it was appropriate to treat me with such disrespect. I suggest that anyone considering placing their child in this program reconsider. Sherri, is very unprofessional and thinks she is above being reported. Few black individuals attend this program, but never in a million years would I have thought I would experience such ill-treatment and disrespect. The behavior displayed by Sherri and Ken Reynolds was unacceptable, especially when I am not only a paying customer but I am a respectable parent. I never disrespect anyone, arrive on time, sit quietly, watch my son practice, and leave. I allow my son to participate in graduations and purchase weapons as our budget allows. I do not cause any disruptions yet, Sherri spoke to me like my son, and I was the scum of the earth and unworthy of being at the same facility. I am unsure if I was racially profiled, but I can say that every other parent in that facility tonight was treated with kindness when they approached Sherri with questions or concerns. The other parents were also of another ethnicity. Unbeknownst to them, I am not some uneducated black woman. I am well educated. I know I do not have to make a scene to be heard, unlike Sherri. The way Sherri pestered me, I could tell she thought she would get me outraged, but I kept my decorum. I am disgusted at Sherri's behavior and lack of accountability. Other parents heard how she treated me, but none of them wanted to get involved, and I do understand because their children have to attend the facility. Paying customers keeps that facility going, and discrimination should not be tolerated by anyone, regardless of their position or title.
My experience at the ATA school on Hwy 10 has been wonderful! I take classes with my daughter and son in Saturday mornings and we each take a separate class once during the week. The times fit our schedule and the dues fit our budget. We love our instructors they make us feel wanted and welcome and are attentive to our questions. I feel it has really helped my kids with concentration and confidence and I love the self defense lessons I receive and the great workout. Would recommend to anyone!!!
We love our ATA family. My son has grown so much by doing Taekwondo the last 2.5 years! He is now a black belt!! The instructors are so kind and patient. They will always help you with anything. Sr master Sean Smith, Ms. Bazzi, and Mr. Jullian are amazing at what they do!!!
we this place!! We the people and the experience. My shy 12 year old comes out of class with more confidence and a great big smile. Mr. Julian has made a friend for life in all of us. So have Ms. Basi and Master Smith. You can tell they what they do. Highly recommend ATA Martial Arts!!
We came in for a trial class to the hwy 10 location. The person who received us there was a very pushy salesperson. Trying to give us a deal that we could only take on this day. $198 a month for one-two 30 min classes a week and a deposit of over $400 with a "special promotion" for a lower deposit of $97. Terrible way to try to get people sign up for their program. Not to mention it's a contract they're trying to get you to sign. This is a very predatory business model.
Good for very young kids. Easy to do so after a certain point it's time to move on.
