I have experienced homelessness in quite a few states, I have never imagined a shelter like this one. This is a place of healing and transition into a new life, not just a place to lay your head at night. The strict rules and structure along with mandatory biblical studies and principles make this a very special men's shelter indeed. The staff every single one remains professional facing the deep wounds, mental illness, detoxification, and anger of 300+ people, seeming to never forget why they started doing what they do. This is a rarity. The food is AMAZING for a homeless shelter, I did not receive one meal that I was not overjoyed to have. The zero tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use, violence or bullying or intimidation of any kind, or ignoring curfew are key to the orderly and positive atmosphere at Shepard's Inn. They offer a 30 day find work option, OR UP TO OVER A YEAR transition period, offering social work, mental health counseling, access to medical care/dental/vision, and many other resources along with a minimum of 2 hours of rehabilitational classes with certified instructors, up to full day classwork depending on your progress, as well as transitional individual housing and job placement. Places like this just don't exist in very many cities, and I will never forget it, coming through for me at the most needed time in my life. Thanks to Atlanta Mission I was able to escape the streets while I waited for Veterans Affairs to find me housing back in Michigan, FINALLY. I don't care who is offended or not by this, but if you are white/Caucasian, sit down, sit back, be humble, because these people are going to treat you FAR better than we have EVER treated them. The Spirit of YHWH lives in this house. THANK YOU ATLANTA MISSION, THANK YOU.

While I can't rate Shepherd's Inn a 1/5 because they do provide emergency services for the homeless, the entire program desperately needs a complete overhaul. From top to bottom, there are significant issues that require immediate attention and reform. Firstly, if you secure or even have a job, they treat you poorly and offer no support whatsoever, essentially pushing you out the door. Shepherd's Inn operates more like a daycare, where men who genuinely need help are allowed to remain in a state of dependency. They don’t require residents to work and instead assign them menial tasks within the shelter that don't prepare them for high-paying jobs or enable them to live independently. Additionally, the shelter allows poor hygiene practices, leading to illness among residents. This is a serious concern, as it compromises the health and well-being of everyone staying there. The shelter is filled with individuals who do nothing but kill time. In a particularly disheartening twist, if you have a job, they might even encourage you to quit. This lack of support for working individuals fosters a culture of no ambition and complacency. Men don’t flush toilets because they claim to be "tired from playing computer games," and the shelter has created an environment that lacks any sense of motivation or responsibility. Instead of empowering men to better their situations, they perpetuate a cycle of dependency. They could offer valuable programs like coding classes or forklift training, but they don't. My personal experience at Shepherd's Inn was particularly frustrating. Despite having a work-from-home job, I was told that no accommodations would be made for people like me and that I needed to go to the cafeteria to work. This lack of flexibility and understanding is incredibly discouraging for those trying to improve their situations. The staff also leave much to be desired. The night staff member I encountered seems to take pleasure in belittling the residents, treating grown men like children. His manner of speaking to people is appalling. Although I never spoke with him personally, Maurice, who initially seems caring, appears to be insincere based on his behavior around the office. His actions suggest that his concern is more for show than genuine. However, not all the staff are problematic. There are a few good staff members who genuinely care about the residents, like the intake team. They truly care about people and do their best to help. It's unfortunate that their efforts are overshadowed by the overall inadequacy of the shelter's program. If I had the opportunity to suggest changes, I would emphasize rebuilding the residents by focusing on their purpose for being there. I would remove those who are just staying because it’s better than being on the street and implement programs that genuinely help them avoid homelessness in the future. Programs like job training, educational opportunities, and support for those with employment would make a significant difference. In summary, if you're looking to get back on your feet and earn money, use Shepherd's Inn as a temporary stop, find a job, and leave as soon as possible. This place needs significant changes to fulfill its potential as a genuine support system for those in need. The current state of affairs is far from ideal, and it requires a complete overhaul to truly serve its purpose and help the homeless community effectively.

Crackheads, covid ,theft ..mental health ...it's better to sleep on the streets with ya back turned or on marta then these shelters if you a young man tryna make it...these places gone kill you slowly with heavy carbs and disease. If you wanna do better stay sober and go to school or just don't go here.

NO STARS . THEY WENT THRU MY HUSBANDS BAG AND THREW OUT HIS VAPE THEN THEY FORCED HIM TO SIGN OUT FEW DAYS BEFORE HIS TERMINATION SO WITH THAT BEING THERE IS A CASE ON YALL AND LAWYERSD ARE INVOLVED SO TRY ME AND SEE I DONT LIKE THAT PLACE !!!!!!!

Truth is these people try the best they can to hurt you financially and spiritually, if you can work the process right you can become self-sufficient. if done right The Atlanta Mission can become greater. HINT- They will eliminate hired staff that make reasonable sense. Since they can not hurt you directly; indirect means will be applied. Read the rules, work your path, watch your back, and with teamwork based initiative you can "STOP HOMELESSNESS " They can hender your chances to get on your feet and can stifle you goals. Change has to be made. - Support Staff are Okay But Higher Staff have another agenda all together. Find the Right people in the programs - Community Leaders - Volunteer Groups - PEER LEADERS, Team leaders Specific Admins. I was a client and we are people but clients have to be helpful each other. They are a work in progress. ______________________ -Could be better but, I believe changes have to be from the clients prospective. This place is not what it seems the staff that's there are ex convicts the leader Maurice is Don't have good memory. Have the staff have left they do not care about u have to wait a long time to get to make progress cuz they don't have no staff. The staff is so unorganized. They barely like eachother. The place is for bad businesses. They not there to help. They like keep getting the donors money. Don't take care of the clients like they should. They need a whole new team. It's sad to say this place is bad. You should not put your life in there hands. They will just have you dry sitting there for nothing and waste your time. That place is not a Christian place like they make it. It's devils pond. Go some where else that u will get results. And get on your feet faster. Trust me i know I was there.
