Our daughter did the girls expedition multisport this summer. The councilors we're great and she had a lot of fun, but it was definitely not worth the money as the experience was bare budget. The food was minimal at best. She was told to "choose" which day she wanted an apple or orange because they only got one for the whole week. Lunches were just snacks, not meals. The day they went river rafting the rafting company brought sandwiches and it was the only lunch they had all week. She said the campers ate them like ravenous wolves. Be aware that some of the physical activities were intense, the biking and hiking were grueling days with extreme elevation changes and the lack of food made it so much harder. The kids cooked breakfasts and dinners so they were barely edible, and they ran out of the basics like eggs and milk, instead opting to pour boiling water in oatmeal packets to have something to eat. They were also given the opportunity to fill two water bottles per day and that was it, which was very unsafe given the level of activity.. Again, a neat experience, but not worth the price.
Unfortunately, I know this company very well. Am embarrassed to have stayed as long as I did. I continue to see the lies that they put forward, to staff, families and the outdoor industry as a whole. DO NOT work here— yes it was voted best place to work- but not by the staff that run the place, that’s for sure. DO NOT send your kids here— you’re being ripped off and so are the people taking care of your kids. They do NOT practice what they preach. Very disappointed in many people I thought I could trust.
Our son went to the Colorado Springs location and he loved it. They pushed him to try new things, taught him about taking care of each other and nature when out. The counselors were very friendly and supportive of all the children. All the kids were exhausted by the end of the day, but all seemed to really love the experience. Definitely doing this every summer.
Recently got an opportunity to serve for Avid4 Adventure. Will make sure our campers get energetic and get more skilled.
Avid just cancelled our daughter's sleep away camp less than 48-hours before she was supposed to go. She has been looking forward to this camp for 6 months and will be devastated when she learns that it is cancelled. They had covid issues that got out of hand with staff and campers and are cancelling the Colorado Mt. Evans residence camp next week. Despite being in our 3rd year of Covid, it seems that they are still not well prepared to run a sleep away camp experience.
Adventure camp is an amazing experience! The coaches have a great rapport with the kids, and they created an atmosphere of camaraderie among the campers. This was our first "Avid" experience, and we immediately signed up for 2 more weeks! We loved the ability to experience something different every day, and also the ability to select a full week focused on one activity. Highly recommend it.
Awesome camp experience! My 6 year old did the 5-6 year old explorer camp in Denver and she had an amazing time. She was a little unsure about the whole experience and has often not wanted to try new things, however she dove into this camp and had the best time. Her confidence level soared, especially with everything she can do on her own and even show us now too. I would love to have her in this camp multiple times over the summer in the future. The camp counselors were fantastic, very friendly and great to work with. I look forward to having my kids explore other camps in the future. Thanks!
Avid4 Adventure is a great camp experience. We have had our daughters attend one week, each summer for several years. Every year we are so impressed with the great couselors that Avid has on staff. They make great connections with the kids, teach them about being outside in CO and keep them safe and happy with a well run program!
My boys, ages 3 and 6, enjoyed two back-to-back weeks of Avid camp. At first, I was concerned that two weeks in a row would be too much for them, but saw them make great strides as bikers and in their confidence regarding risk assessment. There was a good balance of down time so that they were not overly tired at the end of the day. I enjoyed the pictures that were emailed at the end of the week and was continually impressed by the amazing energy and contagious joy shared by the camp leadership counselors and staff. We will be Avid regulars!
What a difference 1 week can make!! My daughter, who had a rough time transitioning from Chicago to Denver, was a new kid after attending one week of camp as a a 6 year old at Avid for Adventure. She went from being anxious and very shy with friends to happy/confident and asking for play dates. It was amazing!! I wish we had time to do another camp before school starts. It was great!
