James and his team replaced my combination water heater and boiler in my condo in downtown Boston. Their entire process was high touch and easy. Despite their website giving the appearance of a low-tech company, the bid and estimate process, approvals, and payment were all very easy to do online. James was proactive in communicating and also very responsive to emails and phone calls. The job itself was done on schedule, on budget, and done correctly. The team took extra care to make sure the common areas in my condo building were protected and always clean. I highly recommend Back Bay Mechanical.

RUN! So many issues! They installed a unit that was too small. Came back out 6 or 7 times to fix the issue, each time with a different solution that did not work. One suggestion when the heat wouldn’t maintain was to keep the heat at 70 overnight! They did finally install a bigger unit and when it was time to turn heat on it wouldn’t work. I finally called a different co. and found out BBM never connected the thermostat to the furnace. I also have to have the ac condenser moved because they installed under stairs with not enough airflow. BBM stopped return my calls

I booked BBM to repair the heat pump in my apartment. The appointment we made is on Feb 25th at 12pm. The repairing man was late for 3 hours and a half. While waiting, I called them twice and each time they gave me a different excuse. Finally, a repairing man came at 3:30. He walked into my apartment without taking off his shoes and checked the unit for less than 30 mins. Then he said something is wrong with the control board. He ordered one without asking me and said I need to make another appointment to replace it. The other day, I received a $650 quote for replacing control board, but I found out online that the actual price of control board is only $200. What's more, they sent me a $250 bill for the appointment on 02/25. They claimed the rate is $125/hour and the minimum service is 2 hours. This is the rate we agreed on, but this is not the service I expected. They showed up late for 3 hours and charged me for 2 hours service while the repairing guy only stayed for 30 mins and repaired nothing.

Just plain awful. They can't keep our condominium complex’s heat working. There’s always some excuse why they can’t get it fixed in a timely manner. Usually they claim they are “waiting on a part” that won’t be delivered for “a few days” which often turns into weeks. Avoid at all costs.

Run the other way. They are poorly managed, don't adequately train their staff, and don't listen to their customers. After two years of trying, I had to hire another company to fix the installation problems they were unable to diagnose, much less fix.

Nickels and dimes, they'll take them all. A 2nd rate organization that struggles to meet promises made.
