Great performance by Simon amstell in the theater. The waiting area near the bar was extremely cramped and the air conditioner was not working well in the waiting area. Nice quaint and personal theater.
Theater with a good view from every perspective. It has a wide variety of shows and artists. It has a lovely bar as well.
Theatre 80 rocks!!! Been hitting whatever show I can--we can as they also have family events, etc.--for what feels like ever. Such immense hospitality! The staff, the ambiance, the electric charge associated with raw talent hitting the East Village and bringing to whole place to even great heights of total ALIVE-nessssssss!!! Really, really love and appreciate this place !
One the best NYC gems around! Been here since Prohibition and was an actual speakeasy too! How NY can you get! When I was a kid I used to cut school to see b/w films here, don't tell my mom heehee. I still go here, the bar is fantastic and affordable and serves absinthe the correct classic way! Sometimes there is wonderful live music with violin and such at the bar. The staff is brilliant and sweet and the owner & his wife have more stories and charm than you can ever imagine! Still family owned. The theater has a sweet NY charm, no bad seat in the house for view and comfort too! There is so much history here they even have a gangster museum! I love to support classic real NYC!
Very tiny seats and a very odd cast of characters working here. All desperate for attention in their own way. I just saw We Are The Tigers and I wasn’t sure if the theater workers thought that they were part of the show. Also, pretty songs and voices but lose that intermission and fix the story. Anyway! Onward.
Best heated outdoor seats in NYC! They have under-seat heating outside here! You can't beat warm bums, cool drinks, fab food, exquisite service, and excellent company!
The bar downstairs is definitely unique. You'll randomly walk in to an impromptu Irish band, and you can have fascinating conversations with all sorts of fun characters, but don't expect quality cocktails. Keep it simple, keep it neat, and you'll be fine.
An historical building from early 1920's the prohibition time Original American Gangsters ran the streets and this very building has its very own stories to tell in its now a museum. Ironically A.A meetings were held on the top floor. And there's a great theatre below where they perform shows etc.
Been here twice for a performance. It's small so there are really no bad seats. The character and history to this venue is quite appealing if you're into that short of thing. If not, they have a bar where you can drown your distaste.
I don't know what is shown at Theater 80 St. Marks but I saw a special viewing of a gangster movie The Untouchables with Google. This place is old but so charming. They have a little bar and it feels like it is out of a movie. The seats are in good condition and there is definitely a lot of history in this place. Glad it has been well preserved.
