I have been taking vocal lessons with Julie since December 2016 and it is hard to tell just how different my voice feels.. in the best way! No more sore hoarse throat after singing a set! Going to the studio every week to sing and work on songs is something I look forward to and is a much needed catharsis. I feel welcome, accepted, and challenged by my lessons. If you have goals for your voice Julie is the person to go to- she is discerning, experienced in her craft, and the rates for classes are affordable.
My daughters were taking music and voice lessons with a local musician just for fun, when he moved out of town and he recommended Julie. We could not be happier! Since beginning with Julie my teenaged daughters have become more confident and comfortable performing for an audience and they sound SO much better. Makes me think that maybe I could become a decent singer if I took from singing lessons from Julie! Hah, just kidding!!! One thing I love about Julie is that she records my daughters singing and sends me the recordings via email. I love having “souvenirs” of their progress. Julie is very talented and she has so much experience performing for years in and around Milwaukee, teaching private lessons, and teaching higher education. Her rates are reasonable and her hours are flexible. Her studio location is convenient and close to a lot of stores and restaurants and the East Library, so parents, you can get your errands done or have some nice “me time” while your kids are having their lessons. The practice space is a beautiful and spacious, you can also sit and watch or read a book while you wait. Julie is also welcoming to everyone, from any background or beliefs, gender or sexuality. At her recitals we see her students are all unique and she is able to cater to their musical interests and styles. I really appreciate that about her and I think you will too.
Julie is an extremely gifted and talented musician and performer, and runs a unique studio that truly nurtures the musicianship in her students. My son 12, who had bounced around between different music teachers and instruments for the past 6 years, immediately settled in and blossomed with Julie. Within 1 month his bad habits were on the mend rushing, always rushing!, and he was was learning a broad gamut of repertoire at an extraordinary pace. In addition to piano and sight-reading methods, she developed his vocal and vocal plus self-accompaniment skills, and brought out his musicianship and ear and had him composing his own pieces! She is so thoughtful and patient with students, rather than tell him how to do something, they will stop and go over phrasing and expressive choices and discuss the merits of one way over another. After coming to one studio performance/get together my 5 year old begged me to start piano lessons with Julie and loves it too! My only regret is that I didn't have time to take lessons from Julie myself, she seems like she is fantastic with adult students as well. I would recommend this music studio for everything from classical piano, jazz, vocal development, voice and piano, composition, and recording! Amazing!!
Paul is a fantastic guitar instructor! My son was 7 when he started lessons, and Paul makes the classes fun for the kids and is very patient as the kids not only learn the music but are doing so as they are still learning to read. Highly recommend!
I can finally sing!! Be Sound Music has the most amazing music teacher I've ever had-everything is easy to understand and I'm always motivated to practice and return. Every time I go to lessons I leave with something new and exciting to practice. I would have never been able to do this alone-there are so many things that you don't even know you don't know! Julie taught me it all. I LOVE BE SOUND!
Be Sound's faculty are quality educators and top notch musicians. The studio is both serene and passion filled. Paul Terrien is a gem. He has been the Praise Band director here at Underwood for 14 years and we couldn't be happier, not only with his musicianship but also his professionalism and inclusiveness, leading members to highlight their skills.
Don't hesitate to take guitar/uke lessons from Paul. He's great and taught me a lot in a short time.
Love Be Sound, they have the best teachers!!!! And even through this pandemic, we have been able to continue our lessons virtually!
Great place to learn music. Teachers teach very well and make sure the students understand.
