How is anyone supposed to schedule a visit when there's only one number you can call,...

I was in the facility for over a year. While in he facility, due to deplorable living conditions I was bitten by a brown recluse, I contacted mrsa and scabbies while inside the facility. In addition our AC went out for pretty much the entire summer, with the inside average temperature around the mid 80s. I decided to move to the smaller building in the hopes of being in more comfortable living conditions. The smaller building while having a kitchen and a living room, is also on he verge of falling down. Numerous holes in the walls and floors, leaks in our pipes and to beat it all a family of skunks were living under the house. When it comes to questionable rules and regulations. While it being a work release and trying to make it easier to adapt upon release, the facility has made some unnecessary changes. For example, no longer can residents that are about to re-enter society order food from a restaurant, we were only allowed to go out for 2 hours in an entire month to shop for certain amenities such as toiletries, we were required to go back to ordering commissary like in a regular prison. The correction officers, while some understood we pose little to no risk of being disruptive or causing any threat, keep in mind to be accepted to a work release you have to be classified at the lowest levels, meaning nonviolent white collar low level offenders. Completely unnecessary use of authority. While in the facility the goal is to reintroduce offenders to society. Part of coming back out into society like myself, is budgeting and shopping for the necessities of living. We were required to hold employment, pay rent and any other restitution requirements, and be responsible for ourselves. I also was turned down repeatedly trying to send the money that I worked for to my fiance and children to help with living expenses. Beckley Correctional Center is being ran completely unacceptable and needs to be re-evaluated. Once in a work release a low level offender needs to have an opportunity to help themselves and their family out, and re-establish themselves into society. But BCC has changed the policies to their own standards. And now the only difference between prison and BCC is a job outside of the walls and then you have to immediately return to the facility and a 2 hour a month trip to the grocery store to buy toiletries that are not on our commissary list. Low level offenders like myself made a few bad decisions in the past. But with no violence or gun charges why should we be living at a work release under Mount Olive rules and regulations. Changes need to be made and I personally am going to have the facility checked out and make sure all rules and regulations of a work release are being followed and the living conditions evaluated.
