My wife and I recently sold our Brookline home and moved to a condo in the Seaport District. We were accustomed to the friendly, smaller town feel of Brookline as well as to having such easy access to large scale grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Star Market. When we moved we were at a loss as to where to shop and even drove all the way across the city for the first few weeks. But then we found Bells and are very happy. We met the owner and he immediately made us feel welcome. It was like being in Brookline again! He walked around the store with us showing us what was what and he gave us some really great tips about the neighborhood and what to do when. All the staff was friendly, especially the man at the check out line and the butcher. Speaking of the butcher, Bell’s has the most terrific meat section. It is every but as good as Whole Foods but much friendlier. The butcher made some excellent recommendations too. They have prepared foods too including sone of the most delicious macaroni and cheese I have ever had. My doctor told me to ease off on foods like that so Bells may eventually kill me ha ha but it will be a happy and tasty death. The ziti is really good too. My wife is on some diet where she tried not to eat pasta so I sneak down to the store and get me some sometimes when she is out. Bells is not large but it is bigger than it looks from the road. Like many stores in the city they don’t have a huge selection but they have most of the basic things that people need. I wish they carried more household items though. Man cannot live by gourmet mustard alone but I would like to. They were out of sponges and do not have the sort of dishwasher detergent my wife prefers but I will still give it five stars because it is an excellent place for food.
Great deli meat counter and beer/wine selection. The staff are helpful and Chili and Corned Beef are made fresh at the Meat Counter.
Great deli with home cooked foods. Butcher will cut to order. Fast friendly family owned buisness. Ive been shopping there for more than 20 years. They also have a beer and wine permit. Not an average market. The deli is the best though.
I needed some packing tape which they didn't have, but the guy I presume owner went behind the counter and grabbed a partial roll of duct tape and gave it to me. He went above and beyond!!! I have always had top notch service from everyone I've interacted with on previous visits. Being a transplant from Ohio, he made me feel at home in Southie!!!
I have been going to bells since I was born but they had sold it n it's not really the same. The past owner still goes n cooks there n everything he makes is phenomenal. The new owner has been there the past like 15+ years as I'm aging myself but he's great the female at times which is the owners relative can make people feel uneasy n that's not such a warm welcoming feeling otherwise it's still nice to go to. A bit pricey but good to go to for a home cooked meal or to get something quick.
They have a good selection of beer, wine, liquor, fresh produce and market goods, but their meat counter is fabulous. Ordered some bacon that they sliced in front of me and wings that they will marinade several different ways! Delish! Also, everyone working is so friendly and customer service is amazing! It has that friendly neighborhood market feel.
Great little store, aims to have a good selection like a big supermarket. This sets it apart from other corner stores. The deli is awesome as well, prices are cheaper then the big supermarkets & can make you a tastey sub as well. The owners are super nice too.
The store has great steaks strip Ribeye pretty much cut to order don't sell fresh fish as nowhere else either must be naive cause I don't why the small markets don't anyways staff on the other hand leave a little to be desired! Unprofessional to rude at times! I hear their turning the whole block into 5 story apartments including upgrading Bell's it's a shame as a person of color who has shopped there 5 almost 6 years never saw 1 Black American behind the deli cash register or aisles for that matter! Despicable! I never until now thought Lebanese people were racist!
Friendly, helpful, welcoming staff. Clean store. Extensive and fresh deli/meat selection. Overall great experience, everytime I have been into Bell's Market!
Been going here for life even I when moved from South Boston I always came back here for their food, homade delicious foods and freshly cut meats. Deli is awesome. everyones friendly. It's really part of the neighborhood, as a close tight-knit community they helped families when we were growing up they are part of us our friends. I now live back here and I love going there seeing the familiar faces some are still there from when I was a baby. Family works there now and I still love the dood n prices are fair.
