Story

Located in Windsor Heights and West Des Moines, our studios blend creativity, diversity, and professionalism in our theatrical program for our dance families. With a full range of dance classes and camps, we offer an organized, progressive curriculum based on best practices in education. Our music, dances, and costuming are clean-cut and age-appropriate, and our performances at the Civic Center feature a broad range of entertaining dances that the entire family can enjoy. Rich in tradition, Director Debbie Westphal Swander uses cutting-edge technology in providing our families a dance experience that has set the standard in Greater Des Moines and beyond. Had a M & W hip hop class that was originally scheduled for 7:45pm. I was called and asked if we could change it to 7:15. One night is was changed to 7:00 to make room for some dancer from NY. People selected the 7:45 time for a reason. Changing times twice during a four class cycle is not cool. Pushing us aside for some no name dancer also showed how important we were. Also not cool was on the last night, I wanted to take pictures, and so I asked the staff to pull up the blinds so I could take some unobstructed photos. She went on to complain that having the blinds open is distracting to the students. It's policy to not raise the blinds. On and on in a very crotchety manner. Look at the picture I uploaded. Are you kidding me?!? The kids can see right through the blinds. They aren't helping anything. Besides, these kids were around 8 years old...no longer shy little kids like 3-4 year olds. After bending over backwards to accommodate the change in schedule for them, I got nothing but resistance from staff when I asked for a small favor with 10 minutes to go in the class. Doubt we'll be back.

Betty Hill Dance Studios is phenomenal. My daughter took here for years, and I took here also as a child! It's run as a smooth oiled machine, as the experience of the owner, Debbie Westphal, is unsurpassed.  Betty Hill has been around a long time and is a Des Moines icon. There's no other recital that matches a Betty Hill recital at the Civic Center.  It's so exciting to be part of this show! It's a very professional, loving studio, that places character right up there with skill.  The costumes are stunning and appropriate.  I can't say enough about the heart of this studio.  The inspiration of Betty Hill lives on through her daughter, Debbie Westphal! I love Betty Hill Studios!.  I don't believe  "1" and "2"  reviews.  Not real.  They have to be from newer studios that are trying to take down their stiffest competition or very inexperienced dance parents.  Betty Hill has what most other studios don't....class, longevity, and a long-standing reputation of excellence.
