Our time with Big Wave Dave from sign up all the way to surfing was incredible. They are friendly experts who share their passion for the ocean with the rest of us. All 3 of our kids and Mom not only enjoyed the lesson but we all caught waves and learned a lot while doing it. I highly recommend BIG WAVE DAVE for all of your surfing and ocean fun needs! Ask for Chris if you can- you wont regret it!

This surf class is a MUST if in Honolulu. Our instructor, Pauly, was amazing! Ha taught us so much and we had so much fun out on the water. It was definitely a little intimidating for first timers, but he made you feel so comfortable and confident. I got up a few times and so did my friends. I would absolutely do this again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an awesome experience while on the island. Spend the $5 for the rash guard- you’ll need it!

My son had his first surfing experience with Beach Boys Surf school, affiliate of Big Wave Dave’s.  He had a blast and got in 3-4 solid rides.  Mahalo to Corbin who did an excellent job instructing!

So I decided to give surfing a try and I so wish I had did this YEARS ago!! I had a private lesson with Alika who was very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend checking these guys out if you're looking for surf lessons. All the guys at the booth were supportive, fun, and Akila is a cool cat too! I had a blast, thank you Big Wave Dave!!!

Went with two of my teenage kids to try canoe surfing.  We all really enjoyed the experience.  There were seven of us in total, but three of us didn't row, we sat and enjoyed the waves.  Honestly, I would've preferred rowing as it's one of my favorite exercises.  Dave and the other guide were fantastic!  They provided clear instructions and made sure we didn't run into any of the surfers in the water.  A couple of tips:  we got wet, but not soaked...next time I'll bring my phone to capture better pictures I used an underwater camera, which was okay but not great quality.  There were brief periods where you're waiting on just the right wave, time to snap away.  Next, I didn't want to leave valuables unattended on the beach, so I didn't bring cash.  Next time I'll slip a few bills into my pocket and leave a water soaked tip.  If they have a place to keep your belongings safe I'd recommend letting people know at the time of booking.  Lastly,  we were told to meet by the Duke statue, but they were waiting for us down near the water.  You can't miss the canoe, so if no one is near the statue head straight back behind the statue to the water.  I'll definitely do this again on my next visit to Oahu.

My daughter decided she wanted to try surfing when we only had 1 and 1/2 days left in our trip. Everyone seemed to be booked or had spots open way earlier in the day than she wanted. Then we found Big Wave Dave and really lucked out as they had an opening at just the right time the very next day! Excellent instructor, very encouraging and put her at ease straight away. She learned quickly and wishes she could have spent the whole trip surfing. Highly recommend this business and opting for the video package.

Rented paddle boards for a day last week. It was an unplanned event and staff was extremely helpful in answering my questions while I decided. Once the decision was made they took their time getting me and my step daughter out on boards we were happy with based on our experience level and we talked about water conditions and they gave us a few tips. I would have done a few day rental had I known sooner that they provided storage lockers to keep the boards in overnight. Very happy I found this location and if I'm ever in the area again will not hesitate to visit!

My older kids and I very much enjoyed our lessons. My 5 year old spent half his time on the board and the other half building sandcastles on the beach w/his instructor. Thank you Lee for entertaining him while the rest of us worked on catching waves. I'm still grateful I had the little guy out there. He really did enjoy himself and still talks about it. I definitely recommend Big Wave Dave's. Great instruction! Surfing was one of their favorite activities, so thank you! If you want pictures - pay a photographer or wear your GoPro. There's no way you'll capture the moment w/out one.

LOST MY PHOTOS/VIDEOS - Terrible Customer Service  While the surfing lesson itself was good and rewarding, the package was terrible. I had booked a package with photos and video. After finishing the lessons, the employees told me that I should receive my media within 48 hours. I did not get anything after a week. I called more than five times to ask about where my photos and video were and they had no idea. After a month of no answers, I asked for a refund and the person answering the phone just kept saying that he does not know how to do a refund nor does he know where the photos/videos were. I e-mailed the owner several times and did not get a response. Despite repeated attempts at getting a phone number for the owner or manager, I was not provided one. I finally had to give a final warning asking for a refund or facing a small claims suit before they connected me to the owner and issued a refund. This is one of the worst experiences I have had with customer service. I chose these people because it was meant to be memorable and it instead turned into a nightmare. I wasted several hours just following up with them. I NEVER got my photos and videos. Go with someone else that is more reliable and get your media right away. I am completely disappointed with Big Wave Dave Surf & Coffee. I would put a photo with this review but I don't have any...thanks to them : :@

Nick was a great instructor. He was so friendly and upbeat, and his instructions were very clear. The whole team was great!  Had so much fun! Moving forward, I now want to take every opportunity I can to surf!
