The customer service here is absolutely amazing! I had to exchange a helmet for a different size which was super easy and the refund process was really fast. I also had to get a replacement tire sent to me because one of the tires I received was apparently defective from the Maxxis factory and they sent a new one out to me the same day I contacted them. I had heard good things about Bike Tires Direct but I wasn’t expecting this level of professionalism and efficiency.
I normally order online and they are exceptional in quickness out the door. I stopped by their Portland store and was very well recieved. Picked up some Shimano cust return new shoes at almost 50% off. Staff is busy and very informative and friendly, Thanks
I needed two new 26 inch Mt bike road tires for my City Cruiser. The old tires blew out the sidewalls they were so old. Found Bike Tires Direct and they had these Michelin Protek tires for a very reasonable price. Plus free shipping for $50 or more. I was expecting the normal 7 day UPS. To my amazement they were here in 2 days. My bike has new Sneakers and I am cruising the neighborhood. Super website super shipping super product.
Believe the negative reviews. Literally Portland hipsters, this is where the stereotype comes from. They sold me tires that were clearly too small for the average rim. Even though these were defective, they made me pay to ship them back...but THEN had the nerve to write me an arrogant email after receiving them. Never never never again. I've been changing tires on bikes for 50 years and I put on 3 sets of tires on these exact rims before these tires and another set AFTER and they all fit fine.
I recently ordered a set of Teravail Washburn Durable to replace a set of Teravail Cannonball that I have on a Salsa Warbird. I am getting ready to take a trip to Missouri and ride the Katy Trail and in preparation because I am riding on the pavement in Florida, I thought this would be a good selection of tire and compromise of durability for road use and trail use. The tires arrived as expected and after a week or so I staled them on my warbird. The installation was tough as the tires did not go on easy and the tires or the tread on the front tire wobbled and the centerboard was off center. The rear was not quite as bad, but the tire wobbled too. I checked the rims on a truing stand and all was OK. I took the tires on and off and remounted them insuring the seating around both sides was good with spacing to the rim. Still the front was worse that the rear. I contacted BTD and they stated they would work with me if I sent pictures. So I did, only to have them want additional photos. Still no reply and been going round and round on Bulged Tires for several weeks with BTD. Save your money the tires are not what I expected and will likely have to pay for something else of better quality.
Don't really make negative reviews, and it seems like the brick and mortar bike shop is filled with excellent people. Poor experience for me with the online side with a transaction. Probably a fluke but figured I'd share. Overall, if you're not local maybe just shop with another online retailer or visit your local bike shop. My experience with Western Bike Works, Bike Tires Direct, Velotech Inc, and Nate from sales was a solid reminder.
To follow up on my brothers experience, BE CAREFUL! I would avoid this store, they post misleading and fake ads and customer service is terrible. There are other stores. Do not take the risk. I see I am not the only one who has experienced such duplicity. I purchased the pictured item as a christmas gift. CLEARLY in the photo this item is advertised as a pair. I received only one. At no point before hitting "ADD TO CART" is it made clear this is for only 1 lever. When I called to make the store aware, the staff were EXTREMELY rude, suggesting that the price itself should have informed me of this fact and laughed. I am not a bicycle expert. This is not at all clear to anyone please reference the photo should you disagree. The customer service representative laughed. I'm glad he thinks that ruining a persons Christmas gift is funny. The customer service representative was extremely rude and the service was no existent. This is purely and simply misleading posts, designed to con a customer into a purchase. It seems to be a popular theme in these reviews. Go elsewhere. There are much better options.
I hate to sound like a spoiled brat but I've been a BTD customer for 9 years, placing 75 orders during that time. The last month or so they have 1 started shipping a bunch of stuff from North Carolina, which adds 2 or 3 days to shipping for me and 2 started charging tax. Until recently BTD was my absolute favorite online shop but they're like the fourth place I look now. Jenson fast shipping, ModernBike no tax, and Amazon bigger selection often make for better deals depending on my goals.
I was shopping around for a new Shimano crankset in August, and ordered online from BikeTiresDirect because their backorder estimate was months faster than most other shops. The original ship date estimate passed, and I got an email that my order was pushed back another week. This happened every week, 6 times. After the 6th time, I asked for an actual estimate for when the order would ship, instead of this generic notification that it was delayed a week. I wasn't given any additional color, so when the 7th push-back of the back-order email inevitably came, I canceled my order and got a refund. I get that bike parts are hard to find these days with all of the supply chain issues, but actual transparency about when I would receive my order would have been nice. I would have accepted a response that the crankset was going to take 2 more months to ship because of supply chain issues. But vague, continual delays week after week is more like false advertising, as I never would have ordered from this site if I knew what was to come. After canceling my order, I placed a new order with REI and my items will arrive in 3 days.
I have recently gotten back into cycling and have leaned on BikeTiresDirect for multiple orders and they have been nothing short of excellent. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they even offer some incredible discounts on open box items. I recently had to request a warranty replacement on a front light and they made it as convenient and seamless as possible. I highly recommend them to anyone in the Portland area or across the country!
