Outrageous prices, mediocre food, decent service. $117 for 6 of us to eat bar food and 3 beers. That's just too much to pay to sit on the river to eat bar food.
Both times I've eaten here the food and service have been great... Even the chef came out to ask me how I liked my meal
Order appetizers. They can be large enough for one, and even if one eats two, you can get it for an excellent price. The prices are lower than one would expect for an upscale restaurant like itself. Once again, my best suggestion for keeping prices low is ordering appetizers and eating them as small plates or tapas. On another note, the desserts and cocktails are lovely. Great atmosphere- the tables are MASSIVE, and, you know, looking at a moonlit river is always beautiful.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The walk down the hill wasn't great then we found out they have waiters who valet park if you ask or make arrangement. Our waiter was very pleasant. The food was slightly above Average. I had the duck egg rolls . the sauce was great the egg rolls good. Then the entree was creamy chicken carbonara. Real chicken not a boneless patty. Nice and done perfectly. The sauce was good but a bit thick when it cooled. Friends had the mushroom tart which was more like a pot pie but had a great mushroom flavor. Also the tuna appetizer was good. All-in-all a lovely experience tho a bit pricey.
We went to the bar area down on the water for a quick drink about 30 minutes before closing. Beautiful view of the river on the patio. Trying to order a drink was a little chaotic. We were passed from one person to the next 3 times before someone could take our order. Wine we drank was adequate, not a huge pour for the price. View was beautiful. Next time I visit I'll definitely try the restaurant.
Absolutely Fantastic! The raw oysters for the appetizer were perfectly prepared with a citrus and shallot topping. For the entree, I had the sea scallops. They were super tender, crisp golden brown top and bottom served on a bed of risotto in a light creamy sauce. The Bistro at the Barge is a great destination formal dinner. It is a hidden gem, that you will have to really look closely at the signs to find. The restaurant was recently reopened, after being closed for four years due to the owner passing away. You can try to swing in and catch an open table, but reservations are a must for dinner. During the warmer months the lower level of the restaurant, Barge Restaurant Bar & Grill, is open for lunch and dinner, with river front seating right on the water. This is a restaurant with a rich history and some of the best food on the east coast. Whether you stop in for riverside lunch in the summer or a 5-star worthy formal dinner year-round , you will not be disappointed.
Had lunch at the bar + grill below. The young lady at the counter was one of the worst ever at customer service... no cares given about anything, and rude. $33 for a ceasar wrap and chicken wings. At least the guy working the bar was friendly. And the deck seating was very pleasant.
Don't even think about stepping foot into this place if you looks like you can't afford it. Let me start off by saying parking is totally confusing. We were looking to eat at The Barge Bar and Grill, but was misdirected to this place. As we were looking for a place to park, a purple shirted gentleman yelled at us for driving too fast we were flying at a whopping 10 mph. When we made it to the establishment, we quickly realized we were in the wrong place, as we could have afforded the food, but we were not dressed for the occasion. A very polite waiter told us that the downstairs establishment was not open, and people get confused all the time. No problem, all was understood. As we were leaving, purple shirt stopped us and recommended places that were "cheaper" and "were still classy, but half the price". Completely humiliated not only me, but my guests. I've heard only good things about the food here, but will never choose to dine here. Purple shirt was a complete snob.
Absolutely fantastic - each dish had subtle added flavors. Like raw oysters, with an added red onion addition. Amazing. Each filet side and prep is perfect. The service here is outstanding. I only rank it 4/5 because the first time I came here they put a bottle of Dom in a beer bucket. Lol. But other than that I have absolutly nothing to critique. I highly recommend this great Charleston restaurant.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Fantastic presentation and menu. I’ve been several times and each experience has been memorable. I would recommend to anyone wishing to upgrade their dinning experience!!
