Blue Lotus Henna

I was modeling for an Indian bridal photoshoot for Oregon Bride magazine so I was sent to Melanie to get henna done beforehand. I was mindlessly running errands like we all do when I stepped into her parlor and the world stopped. I was transported to a safe, cultural, artistic space that feels very energetically protected. She is a henna wizard and regardless of any special occasion I think women should take the time to pamper themselves with this wearable art. I am getting compliments everywhere I go.

I loved spending time with Melanie in her henna parlour! I came away with a gorgeous hand design, a pretty candle and some earrings she made as well. She as a comfortable set up and makes sure to send you away with your design wrapped up for best results. She uses natural henna that she mixes herself and has vast knowledge of henna history and culture make sure to check out her documentaries on the subject!. Melanie creates a beautifully comfortable atmosphere with her cozy studio and is focused on giving you the best quality pieces that are uniquely suited to you. I started coming to Melanie with tattoo ideas to see what might look good where, but, after multiple visits, I’ve realized that temporary body art is the way to go! I don’t need to be stuck with one design forever when each stain lasts 3-weeks this is longer than your average stain as I do take EXTREMELY good care of my henna/Jagua . It gives me the perfect amount of time to sit with each piece and then try something completely different. Melanie also carries jewelry, henna kits, hand painted candles and an interesting collection of foreign goods at her studio - great options for a thoughtful gift I got my sister a gift certificate. The absolute best Portland has to offer - you will enter another world when you walk into her studio and you’ll walk out with an incredible piece every time!

I had the best experience with Melanie! This was the first time I was able to get a dark stain from mehndi. In addition to being very talented, Melanie is also very personable; we spent four hours together for my designs but the time flew by! Her high-quality mehndi and wrapping techniques are the reason I got such a beautiful result and I’m so thankful for it! Highly recommend!

Melanie was absolutely fantastic. She made the whole process comfortable and inviting and the beautiful mandala she did on my belly was stunning and unique. Her space is lovely and she did everything to make me feel right at home. It was also beautiful to look at all the lovely art she had for sale as well as the beautiful jewelry she has collected in her travels. I would highly recommend her henna services and will definitely be visiting her again next time I need a unique gift.
