Bottom Line Bookkeeping & Tax

About

No annoying tax professional lingo. Just straight, authoritative and friendly expert advice.

Story

Bottom Line specializes in excellent service, fair prices, and a range of accounting and income tax services, including our famous $99 tax return (basic 1040, basic itemizing on Schedule A, and Utah state return).

I came to the world of ledgers and tax returns by an unlikely route, which I call my "ricochet career". I majored in music, and spent time as a songwriter in Los Angeles, even landing a spot on a production team for a Stevie Wonder spin-off called Writer's Quarters West. To help make ends meet for my young family, I started a small business in 1988. I envisioned doing it part time, and still keeping a foot in the music industry. But it quickly consumed all my time and energy, and I discovered -- to my astonishment -- that I enjoyed it. Running a business required learning how to keep the books, which led to an MBA in finance and accounting. I worked several seasons as a tax professional for H&R Block before starting my own tax practice in 2006. Eventually, I was hired by Universal Accounting in Salt Lake City to teach their unique bookkeeping and tax preparation courses to students from all over the country. In 2008, UA completely revised their tax curriculum, The Professional Tax Preparer. I was the principal author of the new course, meaning that when it comes to taxes, I can literally say I "wrote the book". Today, I maintain a growing accounting practice while still writing and recording music on the side. I have also been a speaker on tax topics for Lorman Education Services, and a former adjunct instructor of financial accounting at Salt Lake Community College. I am currently President of the Utah chapter of NATP (National Association of Tax Professionals). As I have worked in the tax profession for over 10 years now, I certainly enjoy the work that I do and the growth of my business, but I find that my real passion is for my clients. I love those relationships; in many ways they feel like friendships. I look forward to seeing them every tax season, catching up on their lives, asking how their families are doing. I love watching their businesses succeed and become profitable. It's easy to give good customer service when you love the people you're working for.
