Stopped in here randomly while waiting on the Bolt bus and it was amazing. A warm respite from the cold filled with amazing bread smells and friendly staff with big smiles.
They answered my questions about the smoked salmon spread and how fishy it may smell and so we're helpful in my quest to not be THAT person on the bus. They also suggested the great lavender iced tea which was so delightful!
Warmed/toasted that bagel to perfection and I was set to have the best snack experience on my bus ride. 👌💕
The store/restaurant is small with not much seating, but they have a great selection and great prices!

Was heading up to Seattle on the Bolt Bus and saw Bowery Bagels from the bus stop. Having been born and lived near the Bowery, in New York, I was curious.
The décor is that of the old Noah's Bagels, tiled to look like a NY subway station. The staff were attentive, getting my order just right (and that's not a given).
The bagels are good, and the toppings too. It's not up to par with NY's best -- Russ & Daughters on Houston St -- but it was very satisfying in Portland, very early on a Saturday morning.

I've been coming in since they opened. Delicious bagels and sandwiches!
Great employees too!

A small shop on Broadway surrounded by homeless craziness they could do with cleaning their shop up a bit, making it a touch nicer and also being a touch more welcoming to their customers. The bagels are ok, I might even say good, but I am no new yorker. Their menu seems a smidge over priced for the quality of the food and experience. With a little investment from the owners to make this a bit nicer of a place, I think it would go a long way, fresh coat of paint, keep it cleaner, a few more lights and nice bar stool area would not take much. Now, if their food was amazing and it was a bit gritty that would be another review, but it's not. Dear owners, invest some cash, maybe pay your workers more and maybe they would be nicer and maybe you would have more customers too.

One of my favorite bagel places in town until Saturday March 10 at 12:14P.
Their customer service as of lately has been a little questionable.
I placed an order (my favorite Simon Benson with a salt and pepper bagel, yummy goodness) and when I went to pay a new cashier kept giving herself a 20% tip, with my creditcard still inside their chip reader! I canceled the transaction and began again assuming it was a harmless mistake, She did it yet again, faster than I could tap the back button. I asked her "why do you keep doing that?" I was really confused and surprised, as I regularly order a Simon Benson sandwich and never have an issue for the last few years. Her response was that it was a "service fee."
Perplexed and shocked, I asked if the owner was aware and she replied "Yes, it was a new policy." "Do you want it or not?" I decided to NOT have my usual Simon Benson sandwich and walked out.
I sent an email just to be sure, as clearly something was awry. About an hour later, I received a very unfriendly reply telling me to never contact them again despite my years of loyal patronage, falsely accusing me of being a liar and leaving voicemail. I have no idea to whom this message was intended for, myself or another, but an email response from a professional company should NEVER be handled this way.
My family and I, are no longer dining here and am wondering if anyone will attempt to reachout and rectify the situation.
I feel a little sad as it was a great place to go to, but I won't tolerate this behavior. A few of my co-workers have read the email reply and can't fathom why a notable restaurant would be so brazen in their composition.
