This a great sports pub, very down to earth. The owner -who's a real nice guy - also makes the best bacon and egg breakfast in town, and at a good price. Their biscuits and gravy are legendary to those in the know. Just like your Mother used to make...
Not sure what to think of this place ... Went last summer and the place was pretty busy went back a few months ago and the sign out front was half lit and no cars in the parking lot wasn't even sure place was open on a Saturday night . went inside and there was about 3 people inside after a beer I left. Bartender was friendly but this place could use some renovations for sure start by getting rid of the cloth hand towel in the restroom that's pretty nasty. I am sure I will give this place another chance I've been to much worse.
Buckley's is a non pretentious, blue collar type of place with karaoke everly Sunday afternoon, early evenings not past 9:00 pm, until football season starts. I try to make a point to go every Sunday and there seems to be more people showing up, having a good time. Could it be that Jimmy the Karaoke Dude or Guy? puts on a good show and has a following, or the singing bartenders? Not to worry, Dawn and Sue make sure that everyone's taken care of before they sing! There are 15 or so TV's, a nice patio/garden area with picnic tables and a round table that looks like it was a big spool for metal cables turned into a table, in a covered area of the patio. There's the golf machine and video poker. The video poker room is separate and above the entryway is a sign a crafty customer made from natural wood that reads "The Hall of Shame". There is also are you ready for this?! A SHUFFLE BOARD TABLE! i don't think there's many of those around, 3 other places that I recall and The Glisan St. Pub just took theirs out. So Buckley's is it, on this side of the river if you want to play shuffle board!. It's a lot of fun. They have a grill and a couple of fryers. My favorite is their mushroom burger with swiss. They have the best chicken gizzards in this side of Waco. Always tender and delicious. $4.95 for a plateful. The ambience is plain, but clean. And there's not a lot of advertisement and promotional clutter like you see in some places. I heard it was once a Popeye's restaurant, that explains the many large windows and the airy, bright, open feel with the natural light coming in. No seasonal depression here.... There's ample parking and people can keep an eye on their vehicles, pretty much though they don't have any trouble. There are 3 restrooms, a women's, men's and a huge handicap one. Prices are behind the times, in other words, reasonable. I had a reality check last week when I met a friend at one of those chain-looks like California places. $6.00 for a well Rum and Coke. Only $3.50 at Buckley's! I think the beers start around $2.00. Menu prices are good. Considering how much prices have been going up,just even in the past year. I'm telling you... don't let Mr. Buckley read this! On Aug. 16, 2014, Buckley's will be celebrating their 20th anniversary! I can only think of one thing that Buckley's should get. A bicycle rack. Especially being acrossed the street from the newly remodeled PCC on SE 82nd and DIvision. Just look at what has happened to the old gas stations, they used to be called "service stations" because that's what you'd get- service, not just gas, back when they were owned by real people. As more & more Barbers retire, it's getting hard to find a real barber shop. I surely don't want to see the privately owned restaurants and bars go on the endangered list and get taken over by some big franchise or chain. I hope everyone's with me in supporting the privately owned businesses, get good food, a beer and have some FUN while we're at it! Jackie M.
First time here, DAWN makes really good burgers and fries I highly recommend this place. Cool people here also.
