Excellent Cajun cooking. With complimentary catfish too ! Great service with a smile. I’ll be back here again. Southside Cajun King
Staff is really friendly and in terms of service it was good, the catfish and honey mustard was grade A stuff. The green beans are seasoned very well and taste great, their mac and cheese was different from what I'm used to but what can I say really. Overall was a good experience and would suggest you come here opened minded about the food.
We stopped by tonight but I can't offer a review of any of the food, because we never got seated or even acknowledged before we left. I'm not sure if they're just still struggling with getting staffed up for the opening or what, but we stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign taped to a bar stool for 10 minutes with zero acknowledgement from the staff. Three different members of their staff looked at us but did not come over to seat us or even say hi and sorry for the wait or anything. We finally gave up and went to a competing Cajun restaurant next door and was seated pretty much immediately despite being busier than Cajun King. I know the food at their location on 63rd is some damn fine Cajun, and I'd hope it's the same at their new location, but unless they vastly improve their staffing I won't be trying it for a long while.
My husband and I went by the south side location today. HORRIBLE! The food looked old and scorched. My husband went to get gumbo and pulled up all bones. The food looked disgusting - we politely said we couldn’t eat it. I’m truly disappointed we’ve been going to Cajun king since the Norman location. We were really excited to have a location a little closer. Terrible!!! We will not even bother again it was just that bad.
I have been enjoying Cajun King’s location on the north side for years and have been looking forward and anticipating the opening of the south location. It did not disappoint! The food and service is excellent! The catfish, chicken, greens and green beans are favorites. We’ll be back!
This was our first time at this location and the first time I have left a "all you can eat" buffet not satisfied! The sides were not fresh, they eventually put fresh chicken out even though there was hardly anyone there. Instead of the fish being on the buffet they bought it to your table. We had two plates of fish with about five pieces per plate for seven people. When we ask for more the waitress was hesitant and it took over 20 minutes for one more plate with the same amount of fish to come out. We also witnessed several arguments between the staff, very unprofessional! I hope this was just on off day for this location, if not our love for Cajun King may be over...picked the wrong place for Mother's Day this year!
Been to this new location 3 times now. It will be our last unfortunately. Most food we ate there was cold or missing in action. This is even though we showed up BEFORE noon. Service has been awful too. We loved the Norman location and the NW 63 locations, but they are too far away. This one is way closer. Never once were we served beignets. Waited 40 minutes for the catfish appetizer on one visit. On another visit, we never got it, on our last visit, it was served COLD. I mean room temp cold. Never refilled my tea even after asking for it. Had to ask for simple things like napkins and even silverware. Im serious! Politely told the waitress about this on the way out the door and she literally said she "forgot." I thought initially it was growing pains, but after 3 strikes they're out! Management needs to step up and take control if they want to really stay in business. I'll spend $35 2 people somewhere else next time. So disappointed.
Tried the new location for lunch today, well I tried to try it. Staff is inexperienced and after saying I could sit anywhere never came to the table. There were 2 waitress's and a bus boy I think, and they could not handle the customers and it was only 11:30. I did not see any type of manger in the front of the house. Always loved the north location but it is clear this location is just not ready for prime time. Well they never showed up at the table so I left. Sometime you get the vibe that it is only going to get worse and this place had it. I was looking forward to a closer location but this place is just ot staffed correctly. Food in the window and the cook kept ringing the bell.
I wanted to love it, but couldn't. I went earlier tonight because I remember the Norman location being pretty good several years ago I won't drive to the North side. The short version: stay away until they get their staff crisis figured out, then maybe give it a try. They were completely unprepared tonight. It was moderately busy for a Saturday, but far from packed. They couldn't keep food on the buffet what little was there was old, and what was fresh was gone very quickly, the salad bar toppings were empty for my entire visit, they ran out of plates constantly, couldn't stay on top of drinks, hardly anyone got catfish I had to get up and ask after almost half an hour, and they ran out of some food items including beignets. All of the diners were fighting to get the attention of the same 2-3 waitresses, to the point where we all went back to the first grade and literally raised our hands. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was complete chaos. I overheard countless people saying "they seem like they opened too soon" "they weren't prepared" and "they are overwhelmed." The food is not at all what I remembered from the Norman location. It was all very lackluster, maybe with the exception of the catfish. Definitely not worth the $12.99 per person. If I muster up the courage to return, it will be at least 6 months from now to allow them time to figure things out. I may have to try their competition nextdoor if I get a Cajun craving in the meantime. Also, very nitpicky and irrelevant, but... they should really add better lighting in there. It was extremely dim, especially in the buffet and North/West dining areas. The multi-bulb floor lamp doesn't really help...
The food is fresh and the catfish strips with the tiger sauce is some of the sweetest catfish I've had. Great Cajun buffet red beans and rice, crab gumbo, blackened catfish, fried chicken, lots of vegetable plus many more items. Their bread pudding is the best I've ever eaten. We will go there ever time we want Cajun food.
