Cambridge International School is located in Atlanta, GA. We educate and nurture children from the age of 3 months through Kindergarten.
Cambridge International Preschool is a private preschool located in the heart of the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. Our school was created to give working parents and children with a greater appetite for learning the opportunity to attend a vibrant, community and child centric school. Our focus is firmly on the individual child and all styles of learning are honored through our customized curriculum.
Our daily lesson plans include activities from all the major learning domains such as:
Development of motor skills - both fine and gross
Customized language, literacy activities which inspire imagination and metacognition
Writing practice - from scribbling to writing our friends’s names.
Understanding of print awareness is learned through read-alouds and active literacy activities which encourage this skill.
Math problem solving through Montessori tools and Math Their Way/Everyday math activities
Exposure to simple scientific experiments (safe for all ages) with concentration on natural world and Reggio Concepts (recycling, preservation).
Character Education - important topics often covered in fairy tales are incorporated into our lessons. We explore bravery, tolerance toward others, making good personal choices, being kind, fair and promoting justice. We also ask important questions about the role of gender from experiences and stories - for example, after reading the Little Mermaid, our PreK class delved into a serous conversation about whether or not the Little Mermaid did the right thing by leaving her family for a Prince she didn’t even know. So many of our fairy tales send the wrong message to our impressionable youngsters that we find it important to help them understand that all of what they read is not true and to think about what they are reading or being read.
Focus on exposure to World Cultures - pretend travel leads us to learn about different cultures and gain different perspectives.
Introduction of World Languages - a language a month.
Our program concentrates on learning the basic words of 8 different languages on a monthly basis - as well as twice weekly lessons in Spanish. We are interested in creating neural pathways through exposure to many different languages. Later in life, children who have been exposed will find it much easier to pick up another language. So many children who have been immersed in a foreign language suffer from lack of a mother tongue when immersed in a second language before they have mastered English. Current research suggests exposure until first grade, when it is appropriate to begin immersion of a second language. English is hard enough!
