We were very disappointed today we are visiting from New Zealand and my husband is a keen stamp collector . I found this store online for him so we made plans today so that he could come to the store as no where does it say that the store is not open to the public so we turn up and the notice on the door says no walk ins. Can you please update your website so others don’t waste the time and effort of coming to the store.
This is one of last survived mortar n brick stamp shop in New York City..maybe in the country. They have a huge domestic & international selection of stamps and accessories. I can easily spend hours browsing stamps. They are organized by countries and topical. They do close early and open til 7PM only on Thursday. This store bring me back my childhood memory of shopping stamps at the store.
Champion Stamp Co is a landmark for stamp collectors both new and experienced. The last retail postage stamp dealer in New York City, Champion is a warm and inviting place to browse new finds and search for elusive stamps. They are somewhat well-known for their mystery boxes but have an impressive selection of US and worldwide covers and stamps. They sell from a website but the in-store experience is great! The staff is very knowledge and willing to help. I was looking for some obscure covers and they went out of their way to help me find some. They also have a selection of supplies for stamp collectors. Also, they deal in collectible currency and stock certificates if you collect those. I’ll visit Champion everytime I am in New York!
I used to stop in occasionally during my lunch hour and if you're not a collector, you may feel intimidated, but don't be. I would walk in and browse the counters, looking at all the interesting stamps and supplies without bother. If the shop keepers seem a little standoffish it's because they're really busy with a lot of behind the scenes stuff. a, there aren't many of these places left, and as a result, they have little precious time to spare, as they look busy handling stampr research for remote customers, etc. If you are truly interested, hobbyist love ro share their knowledge, don't be shy. This is a good business if you're interested in starting a hobby. The hobby of Kings!
Was there 2 years ago and was absolutely stunned. It was a flashback from my childhood when I used to go to philatelic stores in Europe to buy stamps. I had no idea a store like that would still exist in New York City.
I called to schedule an appointment to have stamps appraised. I have an extensive collection of stamps from the 19th century the buyer acted as if I was a novice with no understanding of their value. I asked him for an appointment at 6:30 on a Thursday and he said he didn't want to wait for me because he doubted I would arrive on time. They lost my business, I wouldn't recommend calling them.
Fantastic store. Amazing selection, knowledgable staff, especially Bruce. A must visit for any collector.
