Food was amazing between 8 of us we tried multiple different items and everything was great. Location can definitely use some cleaning and maintenance. Parking was hard to find but we did after driving around for a little bit. With putting all of the cons aside i will highly recommend this place for the amazing tasting food.
If you want an authentic amazing shawarma sandwich, book a flight and go to the Middle East. Hmmm, actually, no! Scratch that! Make your trip to Washington DC! Just to be clear, this review is based on one experience, but it was a memorable one. The majority of shawarma meats either in the US or back in the old counties are prepared on a grill or a vertical spit exposed to gas fire. Only rare brave ones grill using a charcoal basin. DC is much more gorgeous in autumn. It's such a beautiful city enough to convince you keep sauntering around until you have blisters on your feet. After a long stroll the night before, I and my buddy did extensive 3 minutes google and yelp search for a satisfying comfort food meal. And this place was an answer; it was a fantastic call! The guys there greeted us with a big welcoming smile. The place looks like it was a classic cute Victorian East Coast style house. We got lucky with parking right in front of it on the street. It was a rainy day. It's 1 hour free until 7 pm or some like that. The view of the meat and chicken horizontal stick getting grilled on charcoal was mouth-watering crazy. We got a steak shawarma, chicken shawarma and falafel sandwich. All split in half. The first bites of each of these dangerously tasty perfectly cooked sandwiches were smiles-igniting happiness. Some reviewers said the chicken was dry. I think those reviewers are dry. The chicken was charcoal-grilled to perfection in our case. The steak one needed a little more flat-leaf parsley. The raw red onions was righteous, smooth and not overpowering. My buddy got the fries seasoned with their secret spices. They were ridiculously good. Their home-made garlic sauce is what makes everything taste amazing. Garlic is magic. But you have to stay away from humans for 12 hours after eating it. My only criticism is they corrupted me now. They set the bar high for shawarma places from now on.
Food was tasty and service excellent! The only problem were the amount of rats near the entrance. There were 4 rats we noticed near the door on our way out next to the entrance door and a trash can. Seeing that many rats so close seemed really gross considering we were ordering only a few feet away. I grew up near NYC and I understand this happens in bigger cities but the proximity made it so gross. We didn’t notice the rats until we were walking out.
Placed a pickup order and was pleasantly surprised. Got the Chicken Schawarma platter with fries. Everything tasted good and was nicely cooked, the garlic sauce was also very potent which is a plus. If you’re a fan of yogurt drink they have that too. I’ll be back for sure.
I used to love this shawarma spot, I always got the chicken shawarma platter and it never disappointed. I gave it a 5 star initially, however there is a new person who manages the order-taking and customer service now, and he is not personable or fun to interact with. I would go to other spots for late night grub such as jumbo pizza, kouzina angelina’s, pizza d’oro instead of this place, just so you dont have to interact with the man at the front desk.
Really the best in town, the flavor touches the heart especially that it's made on the charcoal. Everything is delicious, the platter the wraps the baba ghannouj. This is officially the to go place for shawerma.
If I could give negative stars for this experience I would. We have ordered from charcoal town many other times, but will not be ordering from there again. We ordered a chicken shawarma platter and a falafel platter, but we got a container a french fries on top of some mayonnaise, and a paper bag with six falafels and some chopped up beets in it $40!!. When I contacted the restaurant they said "we are sorry, there is nothing we can do because we are busy".
It was my first visit here. I was very pleasantly surprised but how delicious food is. We got mixed platter and everything tasted to the perfection. Staff was very friendly. Prices are reasonable. I’d definitely come back soon.
I have updated my Review, Right now its Horrible!!!! I am so sorry how the quality downgraded a lot, the and place around full of rats. Hope they correct things back as used to be
We had two shawarma. One was excellent and the other was a misfire. The chicken was nearly perfect, but the beef, turned out to be lamb and was not very good. The place was too busy to correct the order and the service was definitely on the slower side. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
