Great clean large restaurant. We got the Hot Pot for 2 and they bring you a huge bowl of broth with all kinds of toppings to put in there. I definitely recommend getting it spicy. More than enough food for two with enough for left overs. The fresh vegetables were great.
Must go to try the HOT POT experience. A unique way to share your meal with family and friends with very delicious food. A HOT Pot of soup will be on your table where you get to select a variety of good veggies and meat to add to the soup of your choice, with great sauces to go with it. You all will be talking about it for months on. Very clean and nice environment. Owner and people are very friendly and good service. A unique experience : Must try if you are in Virginia Beach
Tonight, I ordered the Seafood Crispy Noodle I forgot the exact menu name and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. These two items have been my metric in the quality of Chinese restaurants. The Seafood Crispy Noodle was above par for many reasons. I love the way the crunchy noodles soften up gradually as they are soaked in the sauce. Speaking of the sauce, it was perfectly seasoned so that after cleaning the plate, I didn't have that heavy feeling from overly seasoned food. I find it impressive that the seafood to vegetables ratio is more than other restaurants which means..... More seafood! The shrimps are plump, the scallops are large and the squid is the usual size. If you look closely, the vegetables are so green and fresh too. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is impressively plenty for the price that we paid. Nothing speaks of a great deal than plenty of large shrimps for a good price. I really love how crunchy the shells were and how moist the shrimp meats are. It's good.
At the beckoning of my Mom, I finally got an opening in my schedule and an opportunity to visit Chengdu. Many factors lead to 5 stars here. The atmosphere is clean, modern and spacious. The happy hour has a large 3 hour window 3:30 -6:30pm daily if I recall. The service was personal and the food was amazing. We ordered the yin yang hot pot. NOTE - they may ask if you wish to remove the seasoning spices before the spicy pot comes to a boil. I recommend getting all the peppercorns and thyme etc fished out of there because it makes for a difficult task to get the little seeds/debris off your finished food. In the hot pot we ordered baby bok choy, mushrooms, chicken, lo mein and wontons. The wontons were house made, which is great but they take about 10 minutes to cook full which means they get really slippery when its time to come out of the pot. We also got the crispy chicken it comes with a nice white pepper seasoning on the side which compliments quite well and the sautéed broccoli. We asked specifically for the broccoli cooked in garlic sauce and WOW - this gave me a flashback to the most genuine delicious Chinese food I enjoyed in China Town NY as a child. House wine was $5 a glass during Happy Hour. The wine was surprisingly well balanced and complimented the meal very well. I’ve got no complaints about Chengdu. I had a little issue with my option to keep the spicy hot pot side loaded with herbs and seasonings - if you will be quick to enjoy your hot pot food just get them fished out before you start putting them in. One more thing - the wontons would be much better if the house cooked them prior and provided as an appetizer. I’m excited to revisit when in town to check out their extensive menu of Chinese food options! 5 stars!
Waitress was great, but the food was mediocre, no different from a Mall's Chinese food. Pork chop sauce was gloopy. Pot stickers you can tell were frozen the meat was all in one lump ball. Wife said eggplant was ok. Scallion Pancake was obviously frozen also, horrible. The food came out as fast as a Mexican restaurants food, so you know it wasn't freshly prepared. This pic is of their BBQ style pork chops, compare my pic to the one on their menu....haha!
Excellent service, delicious food. Very beginners friendly for anyone who hasn't tried hot pot before. I am recommending this far and wide.
I love the atmosphere here. Staff was very kind. Clean restaurant. Good food. I will return. Please see the attached photos...chicken chow fun...and crispy chicken. Very good.
If they would only be open per their posted business hours... Three separate visits on different days and times and they were never open. The first time they DID have people inside but the door was locked. It wasn’t until after a minute of knocking did someone come out to tell me they were having a party and that business is closed to everyone else. And never would they answer phone calls or text messages... Glad I was able to get a credit back for the Groupon!
A restaurant you would want to visit for the experience at least once if not more. When you are seated, you are given a big menu to choose your hot pot ingredients. Veggies, meats, more - waited on by extremely friendly and personal servers. Soon after, a gas-powered hot pot is delivered to your table with your choice of broth that will lightly come to a boil as all of your choices are delivered on individual plates and small bowls for you to cook in your own hot pot. You decide how to cook your meal. It's a treat and considered traditionally to be a lengthy, casual opportunity to eat in a relaxed fashion without rushing while conversing with your meal mates. You should really be into authentic Chinese cuisine when you visit. It's what you're going to get from start to finish. The atmosphere is sparsely decorated but staff is so helpful if you are a newcomer. You'll feel genuinely greeted when you arrive and as you leave. Reasonably priced, it's a nice experience.
It's my first time doing the hot pot but I enjoyed it very much. The soup is very tasty and the ingredients are fresh. We ordered the yin yang soup. One side is spicy and the other is savory. If you enjoy spicy soup then this is your place. Another dish that I tried is their crunchy chicken OMG! It was the best! The skin is crunchy but the meat is tender and moist.
