My son was in the hospital due to an emergency on 10/3-10/4. He had to have an urgent surgery the very next morning. I was able to stay with him in his room and it was very comfortable. This is absolutely the best and only place I will take my child in any urgent situation, if able. From the moment he arrived, he was immediately taken care of. Yes, there was a wait and that's okay because every child needs care coming into the emergency room. We as parents need to be a bit more patient and have grace for the hard working medical team and their support teams My son was treated with such care, grace, humility that I was just completely at ease with what was happening. I am rarely this way, but was able to be. I was able to remain calm and so was his dad based on the thorough and clear communication provided by the care team. We knew what was happening at every step and so did my son, in terms that was appropriate. He had a lot of questions about the going to sleep part as this was his first time going through surgery and his first night at a hospital. Thank you to Dr. Horton, Dr. Fox, and all of the beautiful and amazing nurses and care team who took care of Brayden. We are forever grateful for your beautiful souls. Please continue making the children feel like royalty and the parents at ease.
Nearly ran off road by KD4 ambulance license VMG9239 at offramp 6/5 from Hwy 264 near MLK Expressway on 2 January 2023 at 210pm. Transport abruptly crossed both solid white lines and crossed through median to make exit late, forcing me to conduct emergency maneuver and breaking Emergency lights and sirens were not on, and ambulance was driving normaly afterwards. Ambulance violate multiple traffic codes, and endangered the safety of me and my 15 year old son. Recommend addressing with your staff to prevent future accident/ incident
So you're going to see my name up here a few times. We took my daughter here because her legs were a little swollen. They tell my wife they want to put a catheter in my 2 year old, not suggesting anything else. Of course I'm objective you can get a sample another way. That was one thing, when they tell my wife they are going to draw blood and they put an iv instead. Call security when I tell him I demanding better communication between the nurses and us as parents. Cut me off in the middle of a sentence to ask in I'm done! Real professional Doctor . Father's stay calm, they want you to flip out so they can have all the say in how to treat your precious child. I'm able to be dominant and polite at the same time, professional.
Don't let one bad apple spoiled the bunch. Revisited the Emergency room when my daughter's condition worsened, this time around it felt like I was at an accredited hospital for children. My daughter was well taken care of, the communication between the doctors and nurses to me was very thorough. It was very different from my visit prior. Thank you for taken care of my baby.
My babygirl was sick for the first time and Nurse Laura explained everything that was happening thoroughly. She patiently listened to our concerns and was quick & efficient. She definitely deserves the sunflower award. We need more nurses like her!
I’ve had several different experiences at CHKD locations. The main hospital in norfolk has not been good experiences. One time I took my 5 week old daughter to emergency room as she spiked a fever, which is SCARY and can be fatal for a baby to get sick. At 3am we arrive and once in the back, it took 3 different people FOUR times to attempt to get blood from her, they even used the vein locator light which shows you the veins!!! This was atleast an hour of torture. After that traumatic experience of my infant screaming from being stuck far to many times, I’m then told that they want to do a spinal fluid tap to check for meningitis. Ummm… you couldn’t get blood drawn properly yet you expect me to “believe” you can accurately get a needle into her back without hurting my baby?! Oh hell no ! Plus if they don’t get the sample or miss, then they can’t do it at all again since the area they were trying to collect from is tainted. So after being talked down to by the ER doctor about this procedure , I asked them what our other options are. They finally told me that she could spend then night and be watched for 24hours while they waited on blood cultures to tell them what virus/flu/bacteria she had caught. So I ended up spending the night in a chair, no bed, and held my daughter. Let me remind you that she was 5 weeks old, I just had a c-section surgery. Sitting in a chair awake all night was not comfortable or beneficial to my health. But luckily my daughters fever went away fast and she had caught the rhino virus RVS. I do have other stories just like this, I’ll have to post again as this one is long
The nurses and doctors at this hospital are truly angels. I was very hesitant coming here because I know of the bad reviews around wait times. My 15 month old son developed thrombocytopenia which is where his immune system attacked itself and his platelets dropped to SIX. All over bruising and blood blisters. It was awful. These people were so wonderful and hard working and so supportive. The only complaint I would have against the waiting room is to fix the changing tables in the bathroom because they not have working straps. A mama knows this struggle is REAL.
Everyone here was really nice, I had nothing to complain but the doctor who discharged my son did miscaculated the dosage of the antibiotic she prescribed for my son without double checking. It was obviously dangerous because their patients are all childrens and they’re vulnerable. So parents please be more cautious and speak up as soon as you suspect there’s something wrong with the treatment!
In 2020, my oldest son was hospitalized due to respiratory failure. I don’t remember his name but he was red head respiratory therapist would sing to my son while he was on high flow oxygen and barely responding. He is the one that suggested my son take albuterol because no other treatment was working. I have not forgotten and I’m so thankful that you saved my sons life. The nurses and doctors that tended to my son were also very amazing. I now take my son to a CHKD pediatric practice and he’s been doing great ever since. Thank you to the wonderful doctors, respiratory therapist and nurses that saved my sons life
This is for the ER, my child 10 month got a concussion and vomitted 4 times and got to the ER an hour after this happened. We waited nearly 2 hours and when I asked about wait time they rudely said “ I don’t know”. Me and my wife decided to go to the Sentara ER where they transferred us within 20 minutes as trauma. We were in the ER for 24 hours until they admitted us. The actual hospital did amazing job taking care of us the ER was trash.
