Great fresh cilantro! The local tomatoes were large and tasted great not grainy at all! All at a great price for the quality. Friendly mom and pop type operation. Sometimes they close early or open a little late but hey if that's a problem shop a chain store! Nice selection of olives and cheeses as well.
I love having a neighborhood market like Christo's within easy walking distance! For such a small shop, their fruit and vegetable selection is great -- I've found beautiful leeks and dandelion greens, for example -- and everything is fresh, including the organic eggs they stock. What's more, they're always friendly when I shop, even if it's only to pick up some small item.
Sometimes the produce is noticeably moldy, at least more than at a supermarket, but the produce is still usually pretty good, and they have some nice imported usually Greek foods I don't usually see elsewhere like rojik/churchkhela. The breads and pastries at the front are quite good, and they also have the best prunes I've ever had.
Its not that specialty oriented. They have some packaged Greek things however, they don't make anything in store and it sounds like they don't even source locally. I asked if the yogurt is local and the guy told me no, he orders it from California in bulk and just fills up smaller containers with it for sale. The yogurt was pretty good, though so maybe I'll go back.
I live in the Dallas metroplex and the Greek community is so low-profile here that no stores "middle eastern" or otherwise carry products from the motherland anymore. Christo's Market not only carries a huge Greek selection, they even offer the high-end stuff that is unbeatable in quality. Not only do they stock the old favorite Attiki honey, they even carry great Cretan thyme honey. More importantly, you've never had good Greek olive oil until you've tried Terra Creta, or at the very least Horio. I see people pay a lot more at Whole Foods or Central Market for some truly inferior stuff of questionable origin and composition. Even when factoring in the shipping costs, Christo's is beyond competitive ... they're a much better value. Thank you for reconnecting us with the foods and brands we grew up with and for taking it a step further and introducing us to the latest and greatest. Cooking is once again a joy.
They have great produce and specialty items, but... They're not open on Sundays They're not open after 7 PM They are not open promptly at 8 AM like their sign says they should be, and.. If you call them on the phone to ask for availability of items they might yell at you. Attempt to shop there at your own risk.
Maybe this place is hit or miss, but the selection was not special. This might be a good place to grab some stuff in your in the neighborhood, however this is not a destination that's worth a drive.
Wonderfully underutilized local fixture of Arlington that's still chuggin' even with stiff competition. The owners are both incredibly nice and always helpful.
Great corner market. Perfect for picking up a couple of things for dinner or grabbing that one item that you forgot.
They got some German stuff that's hard to get elsewhere. Nice!
