Their software is a disaster. A basic backup that spawns 130 threads of execution and drains your laptop battery on high CPU. Years of misery. The company could not care less about fixing their problem. I do not recommend.
Abruptly canceled our on premise licenses so we could no longer offer backups to our clients. We had been with them for many years. We now have to eat the cost to move clients to a new service.
CrashPlan used to be a reliable backup service, however they have migrated to a "business only plan" and have abandoned support of the legacy CrashPlan Home users. In October, they transitioned their backup services over and my server configuration no longer works with their service. I paid for 4 years in advance and it was stipulated in the the terms that I could cancel at any time for a prorated refund of the remainder of my service. Since their service has changed and no longer works, I contacted their support team to cancel my service and get a prorated refund for the remainder of my service term. I was informed that in 2016 they "changed their terms of service" and I had a one month window to cancel my service for a refund and they no longer provide prorated refunds for a service that they changed an no longer supports my needs. You would think it would be a simple scenario, they changed their service, my terms say I can cancel. Nope. Their customer service does not want to help a customer of 3 years. I would look elsewhere for cloud backup solutions.
Their support team is unfortunately nothing more than a human voicemail service. The support team is unable to answer basic questions about migration, computer adoption, application crashes, difference between the crashplan business & code42 backup applications, auto updates, or billing. They seem to have a large disconnect from the product they support. Every call results in a ticket & slow email follow up. They offer business / enterprise branded software without business / enterprise level of support. I use to be a huge evangelist of Code42 & Crahsplan. However, over time they have demonstrated their incompetence and disregard and this can no longer recommend their services.
If you are looking for a great place to work, this is it. It is a young, vibrant company that really values what each person has to offer. The management hierarchy is relatively flat which keeps it nimble. I think these things are an important part of the secret sauce that both make it's products the best in class, and the employees loving their jobs.
Rarely back up my laptop and it made sense to go w/ something online. I was going to go w/ Mozy but noticed ChrashPlan seemed to be a decent alternative and they're beyond local for me literally right across the Hennepin Ave bridge. Good timing. My hard drive crashed 3 weeks after and their interface is easy. Plus, I had some password issues and their customer service happily helped. I couldn't be happier.
The crashplan product seems to have accomplished its intent for me for the last three years, however there business and customer service is sub-par. I signed up for a three year subscription in 2010. Its been serving its purpose so you don't think about it, or the fact its going to apparently "auto-renew" Did I check a box to "auto renew"??? Perhaps, but a reminder email about the renewal and the amount you will be billed has been the practice of every other business I have an auto-renew subscription. I was also quite surprised to see that I was auto renewed with a 220% price increase, again no prior knowledge. $180 for three years, okay but now $400! I called them to verify what this was and to share with them my frustration, no one seemed to care about their individual customer. All they could tell me is that I checked a box THREE years ago when I signed up. Buyer be ware!!!
Do not believe the positive reviews. I sure don't. This company is unethical, rude, and unapologetic. Ask yourself, why does their youtube channel, etc... not allow comments... I know why. They are awful. Stay Away!!!
Thanks for the announcement you're killing off all home accounts. Your "partnership" with Carbonite is a joke. Totally non-comparable product that doesn't even support the same OS's that your agent did.
SUCKS! SUCKS! SUCKS! These folks will rob you, cheat you, and offer you no remorse or customer service. DON'T WASTE YOUR $ OR OUR PRECIOUS TIME.
