Story

The brainchild of owner Leroy Brown, Concrete By Design, or CBD, is a company borne out of creative inspiration and the burgeoning popularity of decorative concrete. In the last few decades decorative concrete has gained quite a following in the design and construction spheres, for use in both commercial and residential areas, and as both an external and interior feature.

Based in Charleston, CBD was founded by Brown in 2003. Keeping true to the creativity of his culinary background (Brown graduated from The Culinary institute Of America in New York), he was drawn to a new way of creating art – this time not confined to the kitchen. Following lengthy research, trials and training, and much personal practice, it became apparent that decorative concrete is where his true talents lay. As an art form, decorative concrete is not only durable but versatile, its applications in the world of home design therefore obvious and varied. As Brown explains:

"… the best way to explain it is this: concrete is not what it used to be. With extensive research and new product lines, it has become like an artists’ canvas. We now have the ability to make it look like just about anything. Additionally, it isn’t just used for your driveway or back patio; it is now a beautiful feature inside homes and businesses"
