The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection is committed to protecting and improving the quality of life for all by providing a broad range of public safety services, training, regulatory guidance and scientific services utilizing enforcement, prevention, education and state of the art science and technology.
Since 1903, the Connecticut State Police, a Division of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, has provided a full range of law enforcement services to the State of Connecticut. There are currently 11 troops located throughout the state with State Police Troopers providing the primary law enforcement services in 82 of the 169 municipalities in Connecticut. Additionally, the CSP provides major crime, special criminal investigative units, emergency services, cause and origin fire investigations and traffic and truck enforcement to the entire state.
Troop G is headquartered in the city of Bridgeport with the responsibility of covering 20 cities and towns in lower New Haven and Fairfield counties. The population within its territory accounts for approximately 30% of the entire State of Connecticut while only making up for 10% of Connecticut’s land area, which makes it the most densely populated area of the state. CSP Troop G has the responsibility of patrolling the approximate 57.28 miles of Interstate 95 from the Connecticut/New York State Line in Greenwich to the Town of Guilford. In addition to Interstate 95 Troop G also patrols a large portion of Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) as well as portions of Routes 25, 8, & 7 and Interstate 91 and 684. In total Troop G is responsible for approximately 115 miles of highway not including all the interchanges, exits and entrances. Additionally Troop G provides Law Enforcement services to (6) court houses, the Bridgeport Correctional Center and (14) full-service rest area facilities. There are numerous state buildings and properties throughout the 412 square mile Troop area that Troopers respond to calls for service as well.
