The Class is a complete SCAM meant to grab easy money for its key instructors. Just read:
"When a health professional has a pattern of impaired practice (e.g., from FATIGUE that interferes with physical or cognitive ability to function; from an ADDICTION to drugs)" , his colleagues have a professional and ethical duty to report him/her to their governing body ( Board in the USA, or College in Canada), states the British Columbia College of Nurses.
When Catherine Caldicotte was trying " to assist" one of the health professionals who self-medicated on the job, and explain to her how much the health professional was compromising the safety of her patients " by being affected", and "how bad-bad-bad and unethical it was," the health professional above countered that she used stimulants to battle the fatigue and exhaustion from working under terrible poorly staffed workplace and overwhelming dangerous environment . Therefore, the health professional continued , she basically needed to report basically ALL of her colleagues , because all of them worked in the fatigued state! The Program Director felt stunned and could not come up with any counter argument. She felt very irritated. So now, Catherine, why do not you confront all the Boards and Colleges with the above fact and ask them to stop scapegoating employees if the entire medical system is falling apart! Scapegoating is not professional, is it ? No health profession decides " in the vacuum " to start self-medicating. And they start doing it not because they do not understand ethics. Please, try to address the issue at a deeper level even though you will not be able grab lots of easy money.
FYI: Read about Quebec Nurses Crisis that going on now in Quebec in Canada. Hundreds of nurses started REPORTING THEMSELVES to the College of Nurses stating that BECAUSE of FATIGUE and MENTAL EXHAUSTION they can be dangerous to their patients. ( The situation is similar in other states and provinces
, and you know it)
So please, when you deal with someone like that in your class, do not pretend that it is a straightforward "ethical issue" and you have the ability " to guide" such a nurse ( or another health professional in a similar situation) towards the " enhancement of their ethics" via your simplistic class. What have you truly done to address the unethical work conditions for health professionals? Nothing? No easy money for you in your revolutionary fight?
Also, stop assuming you understand rules of EVERY jurisdiction in every state and province. Do your homework not to come across silly
Expand your vocabulary ---- you colleagues on the panel had to come to your rescue several times.
Let your "students" fill out the evaluation of the ProBe class ANONIMOUSLY on LINE; and not right away in front of your nose when you are lurking behind their backs ( and when it is easy to guess who is writing what). This way we will know how truly effective your class is.
Stop indirectly bullying your students into writing their essays based on the subtype of Ethics chosen by you ( otherwise, you are not going to pass them). Stop cornering them by making them vilify themselves completely in their final essays Stop demanding a simplistic analyses from them that suits your needs, so that the Discipline Committees are mislead into thinking that you did a great " ethical job", while in reality it is often self-serving manipulation on your part. Many enrollees at the end of your Ethical Class training were leaving with a heavy feeling that the majority of their concerns were not addressed, that they were just brushed off, that you strategically switched to another topic when you did not know what to say. Many enrolees felt that they were almost "choked" into writing what they thought should be written for Ethics sake. ( Nobody wanted to fail and pay this ethics class exorbitant unethical fine again)
Start raising ROOT CAUSES in your Ethics Class so that BOTH Physicians AND patients will benefit long -term. It is not only about YOU
