Beautiful beautiful place.. Nature at it's best. Some of the most wonderful trails for walking, pony trekking and even cycling.. just bursting with nature.. countless woodland birds and animals. Trees and plants I've never seen before. When leaving it's worth visiting one of the viewing points along the main road, just to see the enormity of this wondrous place. An if you go on a morning you'll see just why they get called The Smoky Woods.. When the morning mist is lifting it looks just like smoke.

*not to be confused with Cumberland Falls* You can either start below and work your way up the mountain hiking trails. Or you drive all the way to the top of the mountain and take different trails from there. Pinnacle viewpoint is breathtaking. The trails were fun, but man I was sore the next day! We did both the Gap and the Falls and I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. The Falls had a wide variety of trails to pick from and the water was beautiful. But the Pinnacle viewpoint at the Gap was just amazing.

What a wonderful view from the top of the scenic drive. The visitors center offered a quick overview of the history which is really deep. Please, if you're driving past and have a few hours stop and be amazed. Cumberland Gap is famous in song because so much history happened here. Anyone interested in American history has to stop.

For folks visiting from out of town the park offers tours of Gap Cave. It's around mile and it's great to do in the summer because the cave stays a constant temperature which is the majority of the hike. Also if you're in to history they offer tours to Hensley Settlement but you'll need to plan in advance for that.

This is a beautiful park! Cumberland Gap offers some flat-out fantastic nature that will surely leave you in awe. First of all, the visitor center is fantastic, outlining in great detail the history of the park and of the people that migrated there. Second, the staff is incredibly personable and knowledgable on the history of the park and local area. Third, and most importantly, the park is amazing. It's weird, in a way, that the park is so nature-y yet so close to highways and towns. But once you're inside you're taken to a world of nature and beauty that will make you never want to leave. There's plenty to do in the park (visitor center, drive, hike, lookouts, etc.) so you can't possibly be bored. Overall, a fantastic park and a definite must-visit!
