Fresh off the farm, most succulent meats one can find in Jersey city. The staff are super friendly, engaging and welcoming. We tried pork and chicken and they were out of the world! Keep it going guys!
Their meat and prices aren’t worth dealing with their employee. She made a condescending comment that embarrassed me and seemed based on stereotypes, but had a very different attitude toward the other customers. Anyone who’s gone through it will understand what I’m saying. Edit- After posting, I just read the comment below mine written by “Ellie” dated 5 months prior to my review and she essentially shares the same experience. It’s sad others had to go through this too, but I’m reassured to know my gut was right.
Pretty disappointed in the short ribs I ordered thru them this weekend. I called ahead for 2lbs of short ribs, they suggest English cut for the dish I was making. After cooking, it was almost 90% fat and bone. Probably only got about 2 small bites of beef out of it. Hoping it was just a mistake but very disappointing results for the meal I planned all week to make :/
Absolutely awesome new butcher shop. Very helpful staff that can inform you to ensure you’re not intimidated and spending your money on what you want. I bought two steaks and some cool condiments. They came out excellent on the grill with only salt and pepper. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood compared to the horribly-named predecessor that occupied this space before not a butchery. If you’re looking for high quality meat and a helpful staff this place is great.
Super condescending owner, slightly racist, with a southern accent that disappears depending on the day. Way too expensive. The quality received doesn’t justify the price as they lie about the grass fed/grass finished. Product not consistent.
I've patronized Dark Pines several times over the last year an admit that their products are great. However, as a woman of color, I've not been made to feel welcomed as a customer or that my business is appreciated. SO SAD!!
The best chicken I’ve ever tasted, full stop!!! The chicken they sell actually has flavor and their stock is just as good.
Place has a lot of potential and the product looks great. Tried the sausage and they were great over charcoal. The price is justified by bringing in high quality whole animals. I'm hoping more traffic and expanded products like sandwiches and charcuterie will bring the price down a bit.
Great local butcher. I came in looking for some beef fat for some venison grind that I'm making. The shop was more than accommodating. The front staff were super attentive and kind. A gentleman named Juan who I suspect may have been one of the butchers came up front to discuss options he had. Great recommendations and I left with some awesome product. It's always nice to find a shop that invests not only in quality products and goods, but also invest in the customer relations and building a relationship with the people in your town. 5 stars any day of the week from me
I nonchalantly stumbled upon this little place on a Sunday afternoon stroll. Though the shop was small it was jam packed with artisan goodies. I decided to try their homemade meatballs and Sunday sauce and WOW … the sauce was out of this world. Meatballs also 10/10. I’m convinced that their Sunday sauce has got to be one of the best sauce I’ve ever had. I don’t know how I’ve lived in JC for almost two years now and haven’t had anyone recommend this place to me. I can’t wait to go back and try pretty much everything else.
