This is my first time trying Ethiopian food and I enjoyed it. I was surprise not to see utensils at first but our waitress explained to us how to order and how to eat. She is extremely courteous and took her time with us in spite of the fact that she is the only one serving both indoor and outdoor dining. She’s a superwoman! I truly admire her. Anyway, we ordered some samosas for appetizer and we ordered both meat and vegetarian sampler to try. We also ordered another meat entree. We are a party of four and not too hungry but we killed it!
We came here due to our friends recommendation. But I was disappointed by the several facts. 1We had our table outside and waited for a waitress to come to our table and take an order like for half an hour. The same we have been waiting for our bill. And the whole service was kind of reluctant and tense. 2.We ordered several vegan dishes and they were tasteless and absolutely mediocre. No interesting in flavor and tasty sauces in dishes as well as no memorable savors. 3.But at the same time the prices are really high. 4. Dishes were served in hastily and as if in hurry, the dish in a plate did not look beautiful and appetizing. 5. Be ready to eat with your hands by using injeras national Ethiopian “pancakes” I rate this cafe as 3 stars just due to the comfortable location and beautiful neighborhood.
Great food but I didn’t feel like I was eating anything exceptionally unique. This gives very much comfort food vibes, which is not a bad thing at all I was just expecting something different. I would probably come back to try some different dishes. The one thing I recommend definitely getting is the mushroom appetizer. Also, the injera was so soft and had the right tartness to it. Eating with your hands is a much more enjoyable experience.
We had an excellent dinner here..the flavours were authentic and the ingredients fresh. Really liked the entire experience and the staff was very attentive. They were full on. Weekday..so booking may be a good idea. Also had their honey wine - was not bad - very sweet without being clawing.
I ordered the chicken and beef combination sampler and the mushroom appetizer with a glass of honey wine. The food was pretty good, and the service was also great. However, the upstairs bathroom toilet was surprisingly dirty. Overall, if they can improve the hygiene of the bathroom, it would be a great restaurant to come back. Follow me on IG miss_dawang
Outstanding! Need reservations for sure. We got the veg sampler and the chicken/beef sampler all together to share. Great way to try out a lot of dishes and get some combinations.
What a cool experience! Highly recommended going with a group so everyone can get a meal each to share, and to try as many things as possible. The staff is super kind and helpful. And the food was bomb! We also got the honey wine which was super tasty.
Loved this cute little place in the heart of Georgetown. They have gluten free injera which was awesome. The food was really good. They have indoor seating which is fancy with white tablecloth but the outdoor is not so fancy. But it’s what we saw with most places in Georgetown. They also have a full bar. Ethiopian food is meant to be eaten family style and with your fingers. Forgot to take a pic of my gluten free injera but it was really good. Loved the doro wat . I do wish they had more combination platters of mixed veggie and meat options.
Our dinner at Das Ethiopian was a lovely, comfortable, and delicious occasion. While there are white tablecloths, it’s right off of M Street, and the dress code is moderately elevated, the ambiance is distinctly unpretentious and inviting. Owing greatly to the fact that the restaurant is set in an intimate townhouse and the friendly hospitality of the staff, coupled with the relatively simple wine menu and, perhaps most importantly, the communal nature of Ethiopian cuisine, the setting fades into the background and allows the focus to be squarely on the people you’re with and the food. The food was delicious. We started with shrimp tibs and the kalsa. Both of which were good but nothing to write home about. You would not be missing much to skip the apps all together and order an extra main dish at the end if you’re still hungry. For the main dish, we got the vegetable and meat samplers, the short ribs, and the lamb, all of which was great. While the preparations and presentations were relatively simple, spices and flavors were tasty, warm, and very earthy. The short ribs were a standout as they had that fatty richness and an almost sweet flavoring. The injera was soft and tangy. The desserts were solid. Given the location, setting, and portion sizes especially for the meat dishes, the prices were quite reasonable. I would recommend Das Ethiopian to pretty much anyone with a moderately adventurous palate and desire for delightful meal in Georgetown.
