CrossFit is most often experienced as a group class, which is great because it builds community which makes it easier for folks to stick with it.
However, there are those folks who prefer a degree of privacy, want or require more personal attention and coaching, or just like to have a trainer they can develop a friendship with, one on one. Some aspiring CrossFitters do PT for a period of time until they feel comfortable enough to jump into group classes. Others might want to take a short break from classes to have some extra help and focus on weaknesses.
