3/5 because of the hours/days open. I had to leave work early to get a number. The receptionist/first person you see was very nice and informative. The location was clean and organized. The person that handled my paperwork at the actual encounter was very helpful, nice, and quick title work for buying a car! I had to wait around 45 minutes, showing up at 3:00 on a Thursday. Not too bad, but I wish I could go in/schedule something on a weekend. Their website is terrible.
I was there probably an hour total on a Wednesday morning. I got in line before it opened. All of the DMV employees were super nice, helpful, and organized. Their system was well thought out. I'm writing a 3-star review, however, to draw attention to the fact that this location is in severe need of security to oversee safety. While I was waiting in the line outside before the location opened, a fight broke out in line between two men. It was rough, with punches thrown. Some people scattered, some people tried to deescalate with no success. Finally, a woman pulled out a gun to deescalate the situation. Extremely frightening. Some people ran to their cars and left. Others tried to call 911 but 911 never answered or responded. I definitely didn't feel safe. If there had been a security guard there, that would have been helpful.
I was prepared for the worst and it wasn’t that bad. Appointments are months out, and after being there it seems like they know most of their audience is walk ins. That said, I arrive 10 min before opening 8am, was at the end of a fairly long line waiting to get in. I had all of my paperwork ready and was shuffled through the steps and walked out with my task accomplished by 9:15am. People who came after 8:30 were turned away and told to come later. Just be early, the bit of time waiting will be worth missing the frustration and long waits.
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is well...it was not a pleasant experience, because it was the DMV. I was there for 3 hours, but they are one of the best DMV's I've ever been to even though they are seriously understaffed. They moved a very high volume of people through the line over 70 people in line when I arrived and through the series of musical chairs very quickly and efficiently. Kudos to the lady at the info desk. She is the quarter back of the team.
Everyone we dealt with was seriously the nicest and most helpful I could imagine. I have had a lot of DMV experiences and normally dread them, but everyone was so kind and upbeat. It was amazing the difference it made in the whole day! Thank you!
I'm giving it a five for a DMV. That said the lady in the information booth kind of made a few really reasonable people feel weird for not knowing what, for example, exact documentation is needed to transfer registration from Louisiana to Oregon. No one would know that! Sorry lady from Louisiana. But yes, a hard job and people really seemed to be trying. Also, note to all: if you need help filling out a form, go to the Library
I’ve lived in Oregon my whole life and recently moved to NoPo. This DMV has always brought a smile to my face. Their employees are quick as quick DMV allows, and there is an older black man who ensures patrons coming in on their birthdays are given shoutouts and praise. He is always positive and professional. The space is clean and well maintained which is impressive for the area it’s in. Even on walk-ins, I’ve never spent more than an hour and a half waiting.
Super incompetent location One must wait in a line to wait in a line to wait in another line. This service needs to be privatized. It disenfranchises lower income people who cannot afford to wait 3/4 hours for services and who do not have internet access for appointments. This has to be the slowest location I have ever visited.
It was a 2 hour wait for something that took 10 minutes to process. The processors were polite and patient and well organized but one would think with computers and scanners the process would not take so long.
Got lucky with an appointment for only a couple weeks out. Came in 5 minutes early, was seen within 10 minutes, and the person who helped me was very friendly, understanding, and conversational. Definitely not the experience I was expecting coming to a DMV.
