I can’t say enough about the people that own the shop, the staff and the shop itself! I was initially recommended to the shop through a very knowledgeable Quilter and made the 2 1/2 hour trip up from Virginia to Baltimore. I initially enrolled in a jean weekend workshop and the instructor is tops in the country and definitely knows her stuff. We had a beautiful space to work in , which was spacious and comfortable with great lighting. The owner went out of her way to welcome me and even walked me down a block afterwards at night just to make sure I made it to my car OK. Mail service is quick and everyone is so pleasant and helpful!!! In addition, the owners husband was also a gem. Not only does he repair the machines, very knowledgeable and even helped me with my computer. He went above and beyond. I guess what I want everyone to know is that this shop should be tops on your list and it’s because of the warm , welcoming owners and staff! It’s packed with goodies in a beautiful space and if they don’t have it, you’ll be getting it ASAP! They want to make you happy! I can’t wait to give them more business… they deserve it!!
I recently completed a beginner’s sewing course at the studio, and had a fantastic time. It really changed my life not to be too overly dramatic! Alex the instructor was amazing! Patient, encouraging and able to identify the unique needs and learning styles of each student. One day in class I was having a particular challenging experience and wanted to get things done perfectly, but I couldn’t quiet get it and it was disappointing. That day the owner of the shop came up to work with the class a bit, she was very nice but also a perfectionist like me. Based on a her feedback I kept taking my work apart, trying to get it perfect. Alex noticed I was having a hard time and spoke with me, the first thing she said was that this has to be fun for me. She explained 100% perfection is not needed, there is always workarounds, and she thought me many of those throughout the class. Working with Alex’s calm, relaxed, and positive temperament these last four weeks have been transformational. As a perfectionist it was just what I needed to let go and build space for fun and creativity. The studio has machines available to use if you don’t have one already, if you do own a machine the instructor asked for the make and model and spends time teaching you how to use your own machine which is awesome! Payton one of the owner’s was always near by to support us with any mechanical issues the shop also offers sewing machine repairs and maintenance and he imparted a ton of wisdom on how to troubleshoot the machines. I encountered two different staff members in the shop when purchasing fabric and supplies and they were always kind, informative, and more than generous with their time. I was especially fond of a little dog that would greet me at the door every Sunday before class, we are clearly best friends now but I can’t remember their name haha. The shop and studio space are inspiring, I fell in love with sewing and now have carved out a space in my home to continue to create. I intend to continue to take courses at the studio and will recommend this space over and over again to anyone who is willing to let me talk their ear off about it! What an amazing family owned small business!
I love this place! I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, but my work schedule didn’t align with their open hours, however, I had a rare Tuesday off and was able to pop in along with my mom who also enjoyed the experience. The owner and staff were all friendly, helpful, and informative. Fantastic selection of cool fabrics, indie patterns, great notions, and books. They also have a very nice, top floor studio-space where you can take a sewing, quilting, and other types of crafting classes. Excellent!
I love this place!! It's a very warm and inviting atmosphere. They are very helpful and caring. There are several classes and events catered to sewist, beginners and advanced. There are so many machines in in love with Benina now and the fabric selection is amazing. I've never seen such lovely and modern fabrics. The owner is a sweetheart and the story of the shop is inspiring. One of my new favorite places.
Beautiful local fabric and sewing shop with such nice, friendly, and helpful staff. They have a great selection of gorgeous, high quality fabrics. They also have some yarn, sewing notions, and a small selection of other craft supplies. They have a pretty good-sized sewing pattern selection from indie pattern makers like Papercut Patterns and True Bias. They also have Bernina sewing machines for purchase, and group sewing classes. This is my go to sewing shop in Baltimore!
When shopping at Domesticity, you feel like family. They have a variety of quality fabrics and notions, studio space spacious enough to accommodate their classes for every level of sewist, and excellent service and repair staff. They have brought the customer service and charm of a local quilt store into the 21st century with online shopping, class reservations, and a service queue.
Really fantastic experience buying my new Bernina machines! Christina, the owner, is super helpful, knowledgeable, and a real pleasure to interact with… Ashley—and everyone working at the store—go out of their way to be helpful and are so friendly! Thank you for everything! I’ll be traveling back from Virginia soon!
Great shop and great ownership! My wife loves gifts from here. Also they've nurtured a wonderful community of fabric nerds here!
