We've used Doorways for 2 of our sons, starting at age 15 through early 20's. We absolutely recommend Doorways and their providers. Front the front desk helping us find an appropriate provider to getting us scheduled to the support we received from everyone at Doorways and our provider, we had a very positive experience that helped both our sons. We highly recommend you explore Doorways when you need additional support as a parent. Kids these days struggle with so much emotionally, mentally and we needed Doorways to help us navigate how to best parent our sons as well as to give them a safe space they would share their issues. Our sons saw therapists individually and we all did family counseling as well. Doorways was a life saver for us and cannot say enough positive comments about our experience. Definitely recommended.
My son has been going here for several months so I wanted to wait & not review hastily in order to give an educated review. I brought him here due to depression & self harm concerns & he has shown great improvement in his mood & communicating his feelings. They are honest and communicate with me while still respecting my son's privacy. I highly recommend.
Doorways shares intelligent principles, insights to how our minds and hearts work, and they do this with heart. Two of my children have completed Doorways's DBT IOP program and individual counseling there. Even the kids recognize that the program and the counseling are helpful and make a positive difference such that even their siblings and friends comment on differences afterward. It's sometimes a tough world and relationships can be tangled. Doorways has helped my kids become more self-aware when their emotions and decisions are in line with "wise mind" and what they can do to work toward better results in the long run. Doorways is a quiet, calm environment. In lieu of calling out individual names of Doorways staff and forgetting someone, I will say that EVERYONE there has been effective and kind. Thank you for helping my family! You do more good for all of us than you know or can be told.
Doorways has helped my daughter through DBT101 and individual counseling, it has also help my family through family counseling. We could not do it without the help of Doorways and their exceptional staff. I highly recommend Doorways for any family struggling with mental health problems.
All the people at doorway seem to be really committed to the betterment of their patients. They have a number of qualified therapists, several IOP groups that help their patients immensely, and a general feeling of commitment to support. Highly recommend.
I was in the eating disorder intensive outpatient until I relapsed. Doorways said they would take away the days I went each week as I got better, but they never did. I was going to therapy for 12 hours a week and I couldn't do homework or school. Plus, I lived 45 minutes away. Challenge days were okay except they would force you to eat stuff you didn't like sometimes. One time they even forgot about the challenge. They kick you out if you miss three group sessions, which is irrational. A lot of the time the patient didn't have a say in how long they were going on vacation. The front desk staff is very sweet and organized. Chase is a great therapist for some people, but it was not the type of support I needed. Isa is AMAZING. I was there when she was a student and she is one of the best therapists I've ever met. Liz is the worst dietician I've ever had. She made me feel so guilty for my meals and pushed me past my limit to the point where I relapsed. Although, she was there for me as someone close to me OD. Overall not a terrible experience but don't go here if you're very busy with school and other things.
This place is a joke! I didn't even get past the consultation. I missed the call because I didn't swipe fast enough. I called right back and was put on hold for 7 minutes an then was told that I would have to reschedule. That definitely did not set the tone to receive services. Good customer service goes a long way especially when it comes to your children.
We took our daughter to Doorways after realizing she was suffering from serious anxiety and started cutting herself. She was 13 at the time and it was in June of 2020 that the anxiety started spiraling out of control. We had her seeing a psychologist that worked with teens, but we didn't really feel like she was making a huge impact. Then once we realized our daughter was cutter herself, that's when I told the psychologist that we needed to do more because what we currently were doing wasn't working. The psychologist recommended Doorways Counseling Center and I called them right away. Our daughter was evaluated by Mitch and he determined that she needed to be in the anxiety IOP group. IOP stands for Intensive Out Patient I think?. It is 3 days a week from 4-7 pm or at least it was in the fall of 2020/early 2021 and the program is meant to last for ten weeks. Depending how severe of a situation it is for your child, the child may need to do it twice. We found that these mental health care providers truly do care for these kids and really do equip them with the skills needed to learn how to handle their issues ie anxiety, OCD, etc.. My daughter really took the therapy to heart, applied herself during the classes and worked on her issues. The parents also have to attend 2 x a month too. One time with with their child and another time is without the kids. This helps the parents understand how to support the kids during this process and understand the techniques they are applying. Also during these classes my daughter would meet one on one with a therapist. Her's was McCall. And then McCall would also let me know about my daughter's progress. My daughter only did the ten weeks and then continued with one on one sessions with McCall weekly for several months thereafter, until it tapered off into 2 x a month, to 1x every three months to nothing now. Doorways truly has been a BLESSING to my daughter and us. We were scared for her and at our wits end as to what to do to help her. This program is work. It is not a quick fix. It is inconvenient and time consuming, but is your child worth it? YES!!! We made a way to make it work and we are so glad that we put in the effort, the money and time. My daughter is so grounded now and sure of herself. Confident! She has a job which she loves. She said that she could have never held down the job if she hadn't addressed her anxiety. So thank god we tackled this now instead of setting her loose as an adult and trying to navigate life with anxiety and OCD. It's a non issue now. THANK YOU DOORWAYS!!! WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!
Expensive services that lack actual usefulness. The counselors are not good, don’t actually care about the kids, and really seem to somehow add to the issues rather than taking the time to help. Coping mechanisms is not the same as counseling. I am so sorry I took my daughter here. They just broke her heart even more when they kicked her out after she was having a bad day & was sick. Petty little things Lindsey would target her for. Ridiculous, frustrating & overall disappointing. Waste of money, time, & high hopes.
Another review listed here has prompted me to provide a more applicable and accurate review for services we've received at Doorways. I've experienced identity theft and the review left by "April Ward" may be another example of this.. My daughter has been exposed to trauma, experienced domestic violence, been bullied and bullied others at school, had self esteem issues, started to self harm, restrict food intake, and have suicidal ideation. She has high anxiety, ADHD, sensory processing disorder & learning disabilities. We sought treatment at Doorways for high anxiety and her exposure to trauma she started having panic attacks 2 years ago. She's had therapy with other providers and it's been difficult at times to find a therapist that she's willing to work with. The staff at Doorways is knowledgeable, caring and respectful. My daughter has worked individually with Lindsey & a former therapist Jenna, and in family sessions with Russ. The front office staff has always been pleasant in communications. We haven't experienced a personality conflict between my daughter and a therapist, which is a notable first with any mental health related providers we've tried in the greater Phoenix area. My daughter has made great progress with managing her anxiety, advocating for herself and opening up to discuss traumatic events. She's working on healthier habits with self esteem, eating and other behaviors. She has not cut or self harmed herself in anyway for over a year. She's making friends and having appropriate positive relationships with them. She still has anxiety but the tools and things she's learned at Doorways have helped enable dramatic improvements. We are SO blessed and thankful to have Doorways as one of the most important partners in her care team. I highly recommend them!!
