A colleague of mine recommended this place and I decided to book reservations for my mother’s birthday. We were a party of 6. The fish, kimchi, and rib tips you get as a starter were so delicious! I got the beef soup and it had the perfect amount of spice. I also ordered the fried dumplings I believe they were veggie, that was also pretty tasty. I loved that there were also shades that separated the tables.
My favorite Korean restaurant in Philadelphia. Love their food! They have a small bar in the basement. Be careful about your spice tolerance level. Medium spicy was too much for me I used to tolerate a good amount of spicy food … love their non-fermented kimchi.
3 stars because the food was good but the service was really bad. I went there on Thursday night with my two girl friends. The front desk was friendly and seated us. The food was really really good and the price was reasonable. We've ordered the chef special beef bone broth. When the soup arrived, i asked for bowls for the soup and the waiter waiter said, " anything else?". I thought I've heard him wrong, so i asked him what did he say. He answered " anything else before i walk away?" I was like that was the first thing I've asked him to get for us and he sounded so annoyed cuz I've asked for his service for the first time. After he got us the bowls, 5 waiters were standing around chatting. The other waiter kept coming to ask if it's ok to take away our dishes when there's still food in them. I had to remind them to bring me the rice that was soaked into the tea because they totally forgot about it. Last but not least, they kept trying to get us to leave by giving us our check before we even asked them and kept checking to see if we're ready to pay. The place wasn't even packed at that time for them to keep trying to get us out. Even though the food was yummy but i will not return due to extremely bad service.
Great restaurant—was able to sit outside, even though they were low on staff. The soon dubu is good I thought the spicy was better than the regular, but perhaps this is a matter of taste, and the lunch combo soon dubu+other is particularly compelling. I got the cold soup mul naengmyeon which I didn't particularly like, but I don't know if this is because I'm just not a fan of this kind of soup, or because it wasn't the best rendition. In any case, I thought the beef in the soup was a bit stingy. This said I'd definitely recommend this restaurant just get something besides the mul naengmyeon.
Very delicious food, with plenty of free and delicious kimchi appetizer. Food served very quickly, table arranged without long wait too. Overall very good experience. Wish to visit every week until every dished is tried once. Food quality is really good, very satisfied.Food: 5/5
The best soft tofu pot ever! Their pork spicy tofu pot and the mixed spicy tofu pot our my personal favorites. My non Asian friends love the seafood and beef non spicy soft pot. I tried their other menu items like Tonkatsu and Ttukboki and they were also excellent. The portion sizes were very generous and they were very tasty. We travel almost an hour for their tofu pots and the experience never disappoints!
It’s been years since I’ve been back here and I forgot how good this restaurant is! The ban chan was on point and they even provided the short rib bones. The bibimbap on the hot stone pot and the LA gal was delicious! Would definitely come back.
I came into Dubu with high expectations for some of the best Korean food in Philly, and I have to say that I was only pleased, not wowed. The food was good, but not superb, and overall the service was lacking by most any standard and I’m not picky. We got the squid bibimbap, ribs, seafood pancake, and soondubu, and I would say my favorite things were the appetizer plates. The bibimbap had more sauce than we expected and the server didn’t ask for a preference. But all the other dishes were enjoyable and made very well.
This is one of my favorite restaurants for Korean tofu soup. I always get the same thing whenever I come here, their mixed soondubu soup. They usually start you off with a bunch of side dishes. About 3 shades side dishes usually consist of kimchi, marinated spicy cucumbers, marinated tofu or if you lucky you might get beef short ribs. Everyone gets their own whole fish side dish and a salad. My favorite side dish is definitely the fried fish, beef short ribs and marinated tofu. If it’s your first time having soondubu as soon as the soup arrives at your table crack the raw egg into the soup while is still hot so it can cook it in the soup. The mixed soondubu comes with mussels, clams, oysters shrimp and beef. It is very reasonable priced for the amount of food you get. I always walk out full and satisfied. The place is very clean and you get your food pretty quick.
Really good Korean food. The wait staff is fast and friendly. I do however have a complaint. As a non Korean who grew up around Koreans, you can see that they don't try to be as inclusive when it comes to their authentic dishes. For example, I ordered stone pot rice specifically for the crunchy bits but instead they gave me just plain white rice. I had to beg my waiter for the crispy rice. They apologized but it make me wonder if Gaijins are truly welcomed here. One more thing, the Kimchi is a bit too young for my liking.
