Coolest public transit option in NYC - it’s very clean and has beautiful views. It was really neat and an experience more than it is practical for getting around efficiently. I went on the East River Route and South Brooklyn route. Each ferry had a restroom, bar, rooftop seating, and many seating options on the main deck. The employees were all really kind. The only thing that would make it better is if I could have used my metro card to get on. It was $4 a ticket and it included one transfer. I was able to pay within the “NYC Ferry” app which made boarding really simple, they just scan your pass on your phone.
If you intend to head over to Manhattan, use the ferry as it is not overly expensive as compared to walking across Brooklyn bridge as the bridge is generally very crowded during summer. If you miss a ferry, the wait can be quite long and there is no shelter. Ideally bring shades and wear sunscreen.
Love my ferry and the views. Miss the old price
The ferry is far and away the best public transport option in the city. The ride is pleasant and relaxing with fantastic views of the skyline and the harbor. It is hard to believe that it only costs the same as the subway though you cannot pay via metrocard. On top of it all there is even a full bar on board with tap beer. Excellent coffee in the morning as well.
The lines can get long, and on summer weekends, they don't have enough capacity but the boats are clean, quick and provide great views and are definitely a nice alternative to the subway. The snackstands are really cute - more for tourists but a nice touch.
Super convenient way to travel between Manhattan and Brooklyn up the East River, or to Governor's Island or even IKEA. It's a fun way to travel, lots of good views and sunshine, and costs the same as a Subway ride. Great way to go on a sunny afternoon!
The BEST location to see NYC sunset and skyline of Manhattan. Visit this place everytime going to NYC and recommend friends to go before sunset. Take subway to brookline High Street stop and walk 10 mins to get there. There are also couple places nearby for quick dinner outside while waiting for sunset.
Best $2.75 i spent in NYC. We took the ferry from roosevelt island down to DUMBO right after sunset. A really different view, that not every tourist will see Staff was friendly, ferry weren't too clean
The worst service ever. Last Saturday had to stay on the line around 40 minutes to get to the ferry entrance, stuff said - activate tickets prior boarding and I did it right before boarding. And when I was entering the gate they said that they have “no mask no service” policy. But they DID NOT mention anywhere sign, tickets, etc that they require this policy! I had to run to the closest place around with masks available, and once I came back the ferry was gone and they said that I need to stay again in the line which was about 50 minutes just to get to the ferry. They should mention it before people are getting to the line. I lost my tickets and had ruined evening. I also do not understand what the point is to wear a mask in a ferry, even on planes mask policy is cancelled and this is something really weird.
A pleasant way to get from Brooklyn to Pier 11 and back.
