In 2016 I was released from prison, I hit the ground running and was lucky enough to land a bed, it was the beginning of February and still cold so bed/cubicle space were tough. I was paired with a case manager who went over what my goals were, and how I planned on reaching those goals. I will not be shy, the staff has a lot to deal with due to the different people coming in off the street so there is a mixture of individuals like myself who are restarting but motivated, then there are the people who are floating through society. I did see drug use a few times while there, but it wasn't tolerated nor appreciated by the vast majority. Food services are amazing there or were during my time, they have a lot of organizations that come and offer their time, it was one of the things I appreciated and I guess that's why I liked working in the kitchen. Down the road and in walking distance is the Good Will Career Center, where they will help you with a plethora of things geared towards you getting back into the workforce. This place allowed me to save myself, the staff always treated me with the upmost respect, even the meanies lol and I am very thankful that I found them along my journey to where I am now today. If your looking for a hand up, not a hand out this place will help you, if your there for a hot meal and that's all, well you'll probably get that too.
This is the best men's shelter in Arizona. There are not just a couple available to men for some reason. 95% of the staff here are really great people full of compassion and belong here, so 5 stars. There are some staff that judge you for being homeless and lack empathy including an unnamed case worker and a night watch. However, it is less judgment than you recieve on the streets. It is a roof over your head, bus passes, 3 meals a day, clothes, bikes, laundry, showers, electricity to charge your phone, soap, razors, and more. You can barely bring any belongings so be prepared to lose things forever, donate them, or have an angel watch your stuff until you get on your feet. I call this my launch pad to restart my life after leaving a violent domestic situation to save my life. I would walk 15 miles to get here again in a heartbeat. There is not a better men's shelter in Arizona. After having been a CEO of an international charity for 10+ years, I have 3 words to say: donate, donate, donate. Homelessness can happen to anyone, even a diplomat.
It's, unfortunately, the #1 best option for a homeless man in Arizona. Dirty, bacteria-ridden, chaotic, etc. Yes it is. But everyone there, staff and residents, are more polite than I've ever seen in a shelter. And I've lived in shelters in 3 states. Don't bring much with you. They probably won't let you take it in.
The experience I had here changed my life. These people are here to help you in times of crisis that involves homelessness. A New Leaf The organization that runs this shelter provides A safe place to sleep, shower with a roof over your head. There are Appox. 60 "Disaster style" bays that have a clean mattress, bedding, 1 Pillow, and storage. 2 Pairs of clothes and a hygiene box Soap, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Razors, Shaving Cream, other hygiene based products provided by volunteers and more. The program provides 3 meals a day, A Case manager and Staff Mostly Miss Jackie that will make DAMN sure if you don't have a job that you will be awake at 4:45am looking for one. They have a computer Lab that is run by the Job assistance Coordinator who provides transportation to Job Fairs throughout the phoenix area and always knows of a place hiring for anything. The Volunteers and Staff here are caring, but stern. This 4 month program provides a second chance to those that have nothing left and that are going through a crisis situation where vagrancy is an unfortunate circumstance of their bad luck or bad decisions, choices, etc... Volunteer Help Is always needed and Appreciated. Just walk in the doors and ask if there is anything you can do to help. There is always is.
The staff was nice over the phone.. Overall she explained that there would not be guarantee opening.. Plus you have to go online to submit some paper work first..
Made a donation. Nice staff. Easy to get to. Very appreciated.
I Heard & Read Nothing But Great Things About This Place. I'm Recently Unemployed & Homeless Myself. I Need to See if They Have Room For Me. I Need to Get Back to Being Human Again. They Can Help.
This is a non-profit organization that provides housing for homeless men in the local area. They provide a range of services from one-on-one counseling, provide a navigator for the individual to assist in getting them back on their feet again as well as helping them find employment with their computer room. The staff is extremely professional I'm really impressed with the ladies that work there Miss Jackie is by far one of the best along with her partner. They truly care about the people they they are entrusted with helping, too often not getting the same respect back. I first discovered this organization when our church served dinner for them. They have a bike shop in the back of the facility so they can provide a form of transportation to their residents. They provide a safe, private area for them to keep their personal stuff and to sleep. The facility has clean bathrooms, showers and a day room with a TV and snacks throughout the day. This is like the Beverly hills of homeless shelters. And with that being said so is the quality of their staff members.
If you are serious about changing your life around then this is the place to come to. You build up self responsibility and they have all the tools to help you get back on your feet, job fair, counseling, food, clothing. The program is for 120 days plenty of time to do what you need to do and move on with your life. I truly love and appreciate all what the center has done for me and my life. I recommend this center to anyone that wants to change. God bless!
Best mens shelter in the state of Arizona. The staff are caring and mindful of always giving the men there, the respect and sense of dignity they deserve. This is a place that can be crucial in giving a man the opportunity to get back on his feet and restart his life if he so chooses. 120 days is the length of time you can stay there. You are never charged for anything while staying there, but instead asked to do a small chore in the morning before leaving the center. A small price to pay for clean beds, 3 meals a day, plus...all the pizza you can eat almost every day. Job search and medical staff are provided, as well as weights and sporting activities on site. Would recommend this place to any man who has fallen down...and just needs some help getting back up!
